Hi Dastards, anyone got an idea of the cost of replacing the main drive belt on a 4ltr ?.....thats supply and fit, so I have an idea !!
Cheers in advance
-
about 25 notes for the belt & about 5 mins to fit it.......ask nice & bring it here & i'll do it for ya!!
-
Hi KD, thats jolly nice of ya to offer, is it that easy then ? cos to look at the sucker you would`nt think so !!!
-
piece of piss mate, bring it over, i'll get ya a belt & you will know how to do it next time
-
Cost of a new belt from City and County in Worcester was £36.
Thats what I have just paid for one.
I had to have one when my water pump went, and the pullys chewed up a perfectly good belt  8)
-
No problems, easy to put on.
Go on mate, have a go, do a drawing of how the old one goes round the pulleys, slacken the centre bolt, wind the adjuster down and youre virtually done, fitting is the reverse.
-
slacken centre bolt?? wind adjuster down??? tis all pretensioned on the 4 ltr lump in an XJ!! just a spring loading on the tensioner
-
Even easier then,
10 mins and you will have it done.
-
Er, Not on all XJs it aint, KD.
Mines a 96, and what MOCAJ said works for me.
-
tis obviously easier on the old bangers i buy.........must be an optional extra like your griddle mate!!!
-
Sorry for the late reply guys....and thanks for the help  , so I`ll get one from somewhere and fit it myself if it`s as easy as you lot say !
I take it you dont have to worry about timing, and bending valves ect. ?
Thanx again
-
if you get stuck, give me a bell mate!!
I could be going thro worcs at the weekend if ya want me to have a lookin??
-
Cheers bud
-
No need to worry about timing etc, just stick it on mate.
It only powers the alternator, water pump, power steering and probably a/c if you have it
