Title: Air in fuel Filter

I have a problem with my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7crd. When left to stand it gets some air in to the fuel filter, I initially thought that the fuel was draining back to the tank so I put a hand priming pump on with a non return valve in, I have also stripped the filter down and pressurised it with an air line with no leaks. There are no obvious other leaks so don't understand how the diesel is being replaced with air? It is very hard to start first thing on a morning but then usually ok for the rest of the day.

Has anyone got any suggestions on where to look for the air ingress? There is a small white valve / breather attached to the fuel line on top of the engine,  can anyone tell me what this is?

Does your engine have 'spill pipes' daisy chained from one injector to another then back to the tank?
If so, check they are not cracked, I have to keep replacing them on the wifes waggon for this exact reason.
If of course you have no spill pipes please ignore!

Looks like I have fixed it, seems as thought the outlet fuel line from the fuel filter was not sealing when warm allowing air in to the system when stood. Fuel line & seals replaced and starting again!
