Si - is that the one you purchased from Rock Buggy Supply?
-

ditto: I would have to check with him but my bro in law is also shoppin for one so let me know

So that's 3 of us who covet one ...anyone else ????? and what size dies.......cos that's when it mounts up 1.75"???
-
this is one of those bits of kit that would be invaluable twice a year and then sit in storage, would love one and probably got 3 or 4 projects than need a good bender but cant justify the spend needed to get the size i would need.
may be a opportunity to obtain a communal unit
-
ooooh he may have a kernel of an idea there
-
Shipping would stuff the idea for me!!!
-
not if we can lure a birty in who may be employed in the ferry business

I'd love one for a few projects and would be willing to hire a birty unit or one from a fellow birty. I could probably transport it around the midlands and south / east. Maybe even up to liverpool if it helps I.O.M.?
-
keep me in the loop here
-
NB, BD and any others - what would you pay for rental on one of these to complete a project or two?
I was thinking that I would pay £100 without batting an eyelid if it meant I could get a couple of jobs done and might need to have it for a couple of weeks (2 weekends), ideally more time but trying to be realistic to the hirer.
If 3-4 people thought similar or even wanted a longer hire or multiple shorter hires I have a plan forming.
What is the serious interest out there?
-
ok, im seein my bro 2mrw and will chat to see what he thinks
-
yea could be in for this
-
Good lots ofus up for this.........My winter project :icon_twisted: Tube fenders exo cage etc :icon_twisted:
-
ok this is just a starting point to see if this could work but how does this sound?
if we assume the kit with forms and delivery will be £900 (just a guess but need to start somewhere) that works out to £75 per month, so anyone interested can buy in for as many months as they feel they need, if we reach enough to fund buying the bender then we draw for dates.
if this is workable then count me in for 2 months (£150)
-
im sorry i completely forgot :icon_redface:
so will have to be sunday when i see him next now
-
What does one of these do for £900 or whatever that a basic hydraulic bender wont do :017:
-
a centre push hydraulic bender will deform the tube enough for it to not be suitable for roll cage etc, these benders hold one end of the tube and then pull the tube between 2 forms to make the bend but because of the way its held and supported there is little or no deforming giving you a stronger component.
I have a 16ton hydraulic bender which is fine for things like bumpers and fenders but IMO no good for cages

Nice idea.............. Count me in for 2 months as well
and using your suggested shippers that I used for the t/case, shipping about the country should only be £12 a time :icon_biggrin:
-
2 months @ 150 is probably about right for me.
I was considering buying one and then renting it out to you other Birty's to recoup a good % of the cash and then keeping it at the end - or putting that case across to someone else and being a renter of it. Buying a communal Birty's unit could cause complications with who gets it at the end, unless maybe MJS does the initial purchase knowing there are guaranteed hires lined up and then MJS (our friendly Birty's garage!) keeps it for customer work and occasional hires out?
-
was think it more like a time share deal, so if you don't need it next year then you could sell on you share, that way when your finished you can get your money back

It's nice to get a clear and concise answer on here for a change :greggmo:
I can think of a boatload of uses for a bender like that.
Motorcycle frame tubes and exhausts for a start :098:

was busy this weekend
[attachment=1]
will hopefully finish this week, toying with the idea of putting a vertical support behind the doors and a couple across the roof area
