I've got the following bits on their way to me - I'd be interested to hear if any of you reckon these will make a difference.
Stainless manifold - will it give a few more BHP assuming it improves gas flow?
60mm Ported throttle body - again, a few more BHP?
Injectors - a set of 6 for a Dodge Neon 2.4L - seems a popular US mod which most say improves performance a bit and improves MPG a little bit.
Induction kit - probably doesn't do anything but I like the noise.
Something to do one weekend I suppose.

I will be giving the XJ a bit of a lift but want to use the best parts I can afford - don't want to make a crashy mess of a ride. These little jobs I can (probably) do myself without too much going wrong. Taking the rear suspension apart is a bit daunting - might bottle out and get someone to do it once I get the parts :)

I'd go as far as to say it might make it worse off road, it is possible (although unlikely) that tuning to increase BHP can have an adverse effect on bottom end torque, and thats what you need offroad.
the only one i would be concerned about is the induction kit, most try and relocate the intake close to the front grill to increase cold air flow, unfortunately this is also where the water comes in when froading, but that will be obvious when you fit it

Depends if you're planning on going anywhere near water deep enough to get anywhere near anything important. :icon_winkle:

the air intake pokes in to the front grill of a XJ and ZJ
So you can get water in the air box and some times the engine :banghead: :banghead: if the water comes over the bumper.
Depending on what kit your installing can help the problem

Rear suspension on the XJ really isn't daunting - there's nothing to it, just leaf springs and the notorious top shock mount bolts

It's snapping the bolts off and having to drill and re-tap that worries me. Haven't done that sort of thing since my engineering certificate in college :)
Won't be doing any off road really. The odd field for my RC stuff.

OK, so I now have in my possession the following:-
Stainless manifold
Refurbished and bored throttle body
6 Dodge neon injectors
How straightforward will all this be to replace? Bearing in mind I have some ability with the spanners but not loads.
Will I need gaskets for the throttle body?
The injectors are not new - should I get new O rings and should I have them reconditioned before putting them in?
Would getting the engine a little warm first help get the manifold off?

it's always good practice to replace gaskets where used as the chances of them being damaged during removal or failure weeks later are quite high and save repeating the job.
getting the engine warm is good to aid in the manifold bolts being warm before removal and reduces the risk of a siezed bolt shearing.
if the injectors are second hand new seals would be nice as you will then know the seals will be good but the old ones might be ok.
if you follow a simple method of laying out (where possible) what you remove and refit it in that order you should be ok. or take photographs of what it should look like before you remove it.
make sure you have the right socket for the nut or bolt your removing

Thanks mate. Would have started today but had to remove the picture rail in the front room and put up coving - got carpet coming next week. Don't like DIY., cars fine, house leave me cold.
Jeep also decided to dump a bunch of coolant onto the floor today - about a mug full. No idea where it came from and no idea why it just stopped. IIRC it did exactly the same thing during the very hot weather last year.

Had that on my last XJ - came out the back though.
This was coming from offside front. Slightly oily, sweet tasting fluid. Only did it once though, it's fine now and topped up a bit - exactly like last year. Really odd little foible.

starting to think that radweld should almost be a service item, got a tub in all mine just in case

No further coolant leak so no clue what that happened.
I'm thinking about making a start on the injectors, manifold and throttlebody. Plugs, leads, dizzy are all only about 8K old/18 months old so should be OK.
Mildly concerned with the injectors being 2nd hand.
Do I have to get new rubber O rings for the injectors?
AND - is there some gaskets - or indeed a gasket set that I need for the throttle body. The manifold came with new gaskets.
