Hi, couldn't decide what section to put this in so mods fel free to move it! Basically what is the 4.0l like in water (with a snorkel, breathers etc), is there any electrics to watch out for, how deep can you go. The reason i ask is because i run a diesel and regularly go through water to the bottom of my windscreen....

This fine looking XJ is a 4.0 Essex & Herts 5.mp4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36bSi7zOM_A#)
-
There not too bad then! What have you done to waterproof it?
-
the only bad point I'v had with the 4.0l is the throttle position sensor on a lot of engines is not water proof.
I killed mine driving though a deep puddel. :banghead: :banghead:
But a new one from jeep is but cost £60
The rest of the engine in my experience pretty proofed
-
I've had a strange problem where mine cut out hitting deep water but it turned out to be a hairline crack in the distributor cap - otherwise they tend to be pretty good

tupperware and non setting silicon are your friends :003:

mike where is that ford
-
It's in Hertfordshire, Stamford Ford IIRC.

Snorkel, sealed airbox drains, extended transmission and axle breathers and spray electrics with clear Waxoyl. Throw carpet and soundproofing away before it gets wet.

Xj's will take a swamping, we've had them stuck under water, took plugs out, cranked water out, refit plugs, started straight away, done this a few times....

Haha, the phrase we prefer is wired up wrong... :icon_super:
We wanted to get a petrol Cherokee through as that weir had sunk a snorkelled Paj ... XJ didn't have long left so we though we'd see it off in style, we bunked off work, one of the best days.... :icon_winkle:
