Title: T90 gearbox in Mitsi J26 help please
Post by: Invicta on June 27, 2011, 02:21:13 PM
I have column change 4 speed KM141 (based on the T90) in my 1975 Mitsubishi Model J26 Jeep.

It is relatively difficult to get 2nd gear to engage and so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?
All other gears engage and disengage well enough.

Or might someone be able to recommend a place that would take the box out, recondition it and put it back in.
Preferably somewhere around the west midlands or south west as I live in Tewkesbury.

All help will be very much appreciated,
Bern

J20,

I'll take a couple of pictures of the gearbox as best I can but unfortunately I don't have the tools or experience to remove the box or delve into the innards.
So if you take alook at the photos and have any more suggestions I'd appreciate hearing them.

I'm also going to make some nylon bushes (from moldable Polymorph) for the column change to take up any slack in that part of the mechanicals.

Thanks for such a quick reply,

Here's some photos...
It will include a general picture of the column change, Hi/Lo and Overdrive gear levers, the linkage and the gear sequence (from the top of the gear lever).
Not sure how much this will help but it's the best I can do at the moment. :)

J20,

As the Jeeps were never supposed to leave Japan, under the terms of the licesne agreement with Jeep, Mitsubishi UK deny all knowledge. The last time I asked about a part for a carburettor, on the basis that they must have access to parts as they rebuilt a J26 in Cirencester and put it on their stand at Badminton, they quoted me a lead time of over 3 months. I got them within 2 weeks from a chap in Kyoto.

If the box looks like it comes from an early Pajero or Shogun then perhaps I'll try the owners club as if the parts I need to get the gearbox working properly aren't available in the UK and are small/light enough then I'll try Kyoto again.

Thanks for the suggestions,
Bern
