Title: That smell is my Caliper seizing up
Post by: Cockney Boy on July 10, 2011, 05:42:57 PM
Well just out of the blue yesterday my O/S Caliper decided to seize up. And the two bolts didn't want to come out and sheared off, not a problem with a little Oxycetiline. But is this a common fault?

Thank fook a replacement is only £50 :)

Had 3 calliper pistons seize up.
and had to replace the pistons.

but never had a the bolts shear off.

It does seem to be a common problem with the calliper as the pistons are a type of high temp plastic  :banghead: :banghead:

so yes

yep, pistons are a common one, i always keep a spare on the shelf

the bolts probably sheared off as the previous owner tightened em too much, they dont need too much Lbft

and a rebuild kit for the caliper is about £16 plus Vat from lighthouse, as long as the cylinder isnt scored you be ok with that. Its 2 seals and a piston  :greggmo:

That was my conclusion too, there only M8 or 5/16 FFS, but you know these people who just use FT instead of Torquing them up properly....Wankers!!!!!

Siezing calipers, ain't they fun! :violence:
Usually have at least one in the group at some point over a weekend. Sometimes they just try to throw you at the nearest scenery / oncoming traffic and sometimes they catch fire :icon_eek:
Got a couple of repair kits here if you need one, have spare calipers too
