Title: Cherokee XJ erratic instruments
Post by: douglas1438 on July 21, 2011, 02:31:38 PM
Hi all,

My 97 facelift Cherokee has developed an interesting new fault.

Started off this morning no problem at all, stopped for fuel, when I started again none of my instruments worked, warning lights ok, odometer illuminated but not recording miles. When journey almost completed everything sprung back in to life.

Just been out to lunch everything started off ok, then rev counter and speedo stopped working. Return trip everything ok.

Trip meter on overhead console worked throughout.

Guessing this must be a loose connection somewhere, any ideas were I find it?

Clutch changed a couple of weeks ago could anything have been disturbed?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Chris

you need to pop the clocks out and clean up the connector on the back. a few people have had this prob on here.

Thanks for the answer

How hard is it to 'pop the clocks out'?

not that hard, remove a few screws and just be carefull if you need to free of any plastics as they tend to be a bit brittle

Electrical contact cleaner spray is also required - Panic is on the button on this!!

I had that on my 98.

Pissing about with the trip reset button on the clocks cured it,believe it or not :003:
