Hi
As above really.
I like to have a set and i went to use mine the other day to find that the hinge piece on a clamp was broken.
So am after buying a new set and was wondering if a set of halfords own ones suffice or are there better options out there and if so what?
I have a 4.0lt TJ.
regards
Paul

bit cheaper

the jaws on both those sets are gay you need metal jaws to make the most of the cable
-
for occasional self recovery just get a budget set that are rated for your battery, if in use on a regular basis then look to a pro set from a garage suppliers but expect a pro price tag
-
Buy the best you can get....
It works out cheaper than replacing them every time they melt...
-
Never mind the quality of the clamps the cables look wimpy to me. In fact I could probably use those cables as fusible links for the jump leads I made out of (i think 0000 gauge) silver plated oxygen free copper cable and heavy duty clamps.

I have a set, well 2 sets of these, quite long which is handy and rated at 800 amps

truck jump leads are the better option but probably not ideal for occasional use. have a look at the pricing of the badged heavy duty type in halfrauds then go to a motor factory to see if they have an equivalent (sealey or another named brand)

Thanks for the replies guys,
do not plan on using them that much- just a handy item in the car.
I had the what looks like the machine mart ones but like i said the plastic hinge bit broke- probably caught on something.
I dont mind paying for some decent ones but just wondered if people had views on good ones or even ones to avoid.
cheers

hi guys
Go to local auto electrical suppliers ,buy durite heavy duty jump lead ends, then go to welding suppliers and get length of 8 - 10 mm welding cable about 4 metres should do cut in half attatch ends eyelets in with durite ends .Start anything anywhere !
-
Have bought Snap-On from online store before
-
I havnt- if anyone knows a good store let me know and I shall have a look
-
Just make sure they have metal jaws, heavy enough cable, and are long enough. You can't guarantee that
you can always park next the other vehicle. Or just buy a battery booster and make sure you keep it charged.

I bought a set of truck jump leads from an A road service station for about £40 and they've worked fine for me for occasional use - nice thick cable but plastic handled clamps (chunky ones though).
