Title: New motor needed
Post by: scrw on August 04, 2011, 12:18:56 PM
Right, the blue barges motor is starting to feel its 220,000 miles and is geting a bit tired. I am in 2 minds here, do I just get a motor from a breakers & chuck it in or should I get a bit of work done on one first? I am not thinking much, just a mild porting job on the head & skim to bring up the CR and porting on the TB and inlet manifold, plus the timing chain and water pump.

cheers

I would  be  tempted to do the work on the one you got
If you get a lump from a  breakers it may be in a worse state then the one you have

My current engine has either piston slap or a soon to be dead lifter, its getting a bit too noisey

Unfortunately, that was just a sugestion, I didn't mean to imply that I possesed such an item.

A couple of years back I bought Golf GTi bits from a breaker, he was a sort of one man band type operation working from a rented shed on a farm.
He would buy scrappers cheap then drive 'em back home using the plates off his own golf :icon_eek:

Try ACD of Lancashire www.chryslerbreakers.co.uk (http://www.chryslerbreakers.co.uk) They were at the Jeepey event and advertise on their site. They are based in Oswaldtwistle so you may need to speak northern ferret...

your taking the piss now aren't you? They ripped me off for £350 on an axle & I wasted best part of £200 in labour costs. I even took them to small claims court and got no where. They don't know 1 end of a jeep from another, total twats

ACD of Lancashire are thieving bastards

Okay, quick question, just changed the oil on the motor & noticed the ticking is when the oil pressure is above 3.5bar, when you start it takes about 1-2 seconds to get to full pressure and no ticking, then the ticking starts. Any suggestions to  a cheap fix?

turn radio up?

i would have thought there would be ticking with low oil pressure, so the obvious place to look is worn hydraulic lifters, not sure how easy these are to take out
