Title: Jeep Cherokee Ride Height
Post by: CeeJay on August 07, 2011, 01:52:43 PM
I’m having an issue with the ride height of my Jeep (1999 XJ 4 Litre Orvis).  I replaced all the springs and shocks last year (Front and Rear), with the result that the back-end sits 1.5 inches higher at the back.

I thought this would sort itself out over time but a year on my jeep still looks like a drag car!

Is there anything I can do about this?  I’ve tried running the car with extra weight in the boot but the only thing this had done is lower the mpg.

I did consider getting a 1.5 inch front lift kit but this seems to me like the wrong way to tackle this problem.

As always, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards
Craig.

longer springs at the front or a 1 inch coil spacer instead

Hi again Dave!

Ok I might go with the spacer idea, but I've heard of issues with the drive train if I raise the car up - will a 1 inch or even 1.5 inch front lift kit mean I need to make any drive-train modifications?  And can this be done with the standard front springs I'm using?

Regards
Craig.

Cut off point for driveline issues is usually 3" lift on an XJ  :icon_winkle:

Cool - so a 1 - 1.5 lift won't cause it any issues!

Thanks for the help - its off to the my local specialist (Wellside in Scotlandwells) in a week or two to see what they can do with it!

Regards
Craig.

Hi All

I gave David at Llama 4*4 a call and got some 1.5 inch front spacers for £45 delivered.

It seems he get this same call almost every week - he told me that the rear springs being produced now tend to sit higher (they're being made stronger, often with an extra leaf) so he sells quite a few front-only lift kits.

Anyway they're fitted and the garage tells me my jeep is now spot on level.

I'm looking forward to picking it up tomorrow - well apart from not being much fun to drive due to steering box woes - but thats for another forum thread...
