I've had a look at the owners manual and its suggesting a 10w30, 10w40 or 20w40 for my conditions, what oil does everyone recomend, its hard to find mineral oil in Ireland will semi synthetic be ok?
-
i run semi synth 10-40 in the TJ's, would have thought that would do you as well, but will leave it to the V8 gurus for chapter and verse :greggmo:

cheap an often,
-
:iagree: I tend to use the cheaper oils and just change them more often with a cj as its an old design and when warm newer oils thin out a lot more so cause more wear .
-
i only run cheap stuff too but change often :icon_winkle:

Ok, so cheap a cheerful is the concensus but what grade of cheap, i.e 10w40 or 20w40, I have no idea what the previous owner used, will that make a difference, when I drained it out it looked clean enough, i.e. still brown (not black) and still flowing. Also when you say often how often, and do you always change the filter?
-
I would go for a 20w40 or even 20w50 grade and depending on how often you use it change the oil the oil filter once a year.Knowing whats been put in it previously won't really matter as unless you know a full history of an engine its a pretty pointless piece of knowledge to have in my opinion.
-
20/50 and every 1000 miles, filter 3000 miles or once a year or when i kill the engine what ever comes first :hysterical:
