Title: Dana 35 diff rebuild
Post by: Nosebolt on August 19, 2011, 04:30:25 PM
started the diff rebuild today and thought I would try to keep a record of the rebuild.

first job is to jack up the rear end and securely support it with jack stands
[attachment=1]
remove the diff cover and drain the oil.
remove the wheels, break callipers and disc.
[attachment=2]
next remove the lock screw that holds the pinion gear mate shaft in place.
now push the drive shaft inward this will release the 'C' so it can be removed with your fingers, the shaft can now be gently pulled out enough to clear the diff assembly.
undo the 4 carrier bolts and remove the caps, be careful to not let the bearing outers and shims fall.

thats as far as i got today, more to follow (after i get some advice :icon_winkle: )

If I'm right it be rebuilt the lazy bad way   :017:
shims should be on the inside of the bearings

well its back together and driving, only been round the block once but seems ok so far, real test will be tomorrow when it get a run out and a chance to warm up.

not expecting a prefect diff as the was some pitting on the spiders, but if the clicking has gone I'll be a happy man and it'll buy me some time to save up for a real locker
