Title: How do i tell if i have a abs back axle?
Post by: terratology on August 19, 2011, 06:26:12 PM
Hi all, the jeep i bought for bits has a lock right locker in it which i am led to believe will not fit into my xj orvis axle. So i've got to swap the whole axle over the problem being i dont know if the axle i've got to swap is fitted with abs. I can't tell by looking under the bonnet as the po fitted that axle in as it already had the locker in it.

I hope i haven't confused people too much! :017:

ABS will have a tone ring, looks like a serrated ring on the end of the axle with a sensor looking at it, thats your ABS

search the net for pictures of the axles, ABS and non to identify if your not sure

with the wheel off remove the disc and look behind the flange and you will see a "gear" with what looks like a small ally bar just in front of it, thats the ABS, alternatively look for a wire going into the break backplate directly in front of the axle centre line

Yep you got it and cheers all for the help, the axle did have abs. I've taken it all off now, just wheeled it out with it still attached to the leaf springs, i just hope it all comes off my orvis just as easily...........!
