Title: 2.5 or 3in lift kit opinions please
Post by: just-boot-it! on September 13, 2011, 07:43:20 PM
Hi all, just bought myself some 235/75/15 MT's for my 98 xj :icon_super:, im after either a 2.5 or 3in lift to go with them, ive read a few reviews on here of lift kits, do you got with a budget kit or should I blow a wad of cash on a proper setup like OME? Im going to use it for all sorts, days out, bit of road, pay and plays etc so let me know your thoughts people.

OME HD springs, Rough Country oil shocks. Was the best setup I have used, & tried a few. Gives 2.5-3" of lift depending how fooked you current setup is. Then chuck in some spacers/shackles when you want 4".

With 235's fitted

cheers for that scrw, my xj dont sag at all so I could expect closer to 3in? There are some rough contry 3in kits ive seen around 500 notes, I take it this is the going rate for some quality kit?

no, the better the current suspension the less difference a new set of springs will give. I really rate the OME springs on an XJ, especially at the rear, not at all harsh like some others I tried. And RC oil shocks seem to match the spring rates very well, don't bother with the nitro ones. IIRC the springs cost me around £400 and the shocks £120ish. With a 2.5 lift on an XJ you can get away without an adjustable trackbar. All you need is the springs and shocks.

Sweet, so I take it you need 4 shocks and 2 springs and 2 new leafs or add a leaf? If that sounds abit blond you have my appologies!

4 RC oil shocks for a 2-3" lift from Llama4x4
2x OME HD front coil & 2 HD rear leaf springs (full not add a leaf) from TBRUK

2.5 - 3" OME kit with OME shocks was the best all round setup I had on my XJ. I added spacers and extended shackles to fit 31x10.50r15 Mud Terrain tyres but ran 235/75/15 ATs on the standard kit for ages and it was great.

With spacer and extended shackles and 31" MTs

I never got to buy the OME shocks, they are a touch pricey compared to the RC ones, and I found the RCs really good with the OME springs

every jeep is different in the way it behaves after a lift, some are fine and others have a driveline vibration issue which is normally corrected by lowering the transfer case by 1"

I'm a sucker for bling shocks - The Bilstein 5150 I have now are very good too but they cost each what a set of RC shocks cost
