Title: Hello and a quick technical question regarding GC 4.0 engine interchangeability!
Post by: allante666 on September 30, 2011, 09:40:06 PM
Hello, wonder if anyone can help?  I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee Ltd 4.0 litre with LPG. My engine is the distributorless one with the sensor in place of the dizzy and the long coilpack.
I have a couple of pistons slapping. I can find an earlier engine (the type with dizzy) at a reasonable price but I wondered if the block and head etc were the same? I would only really need to swap the block complete with crank, cam and pistons, I could keep my current head if it was the same.
Anyone know if this is possible? Ive been told it can be done the other way round, ie put a newer block in an older engine.
Im guessing someone must have tried this?

Oh and yes, it is definitely piston slap, Ive had the head off and checked. there were four of them you would need to replace although theres only one making a noise but I figured another engine (or at least block) would be a cheaper answer.
Thanks
Andy

You can use an earlier block if you swap all the ancillaries and your existing coil on plug head.
