Title: WTF is this?
Post by: Nosebolt on October 02, 2011, 01:29:12 PM
its a 'loose' wire/rod that runs the length of the head, what is it and what does it do?

[attachment=1]

while on the subject are there any good chemical solutions to clear the crud from a blocks water jacket without wrecking the gaskets or disassembling the engine?

How about 'Killrock' available from hardware stores. I use it for removal of limescale in baths sinks dunnies........ from the smell tis mainly hydrochloric acid so would remove the crud caused by 30 years of water and no antifreeze syndrome. Mind hands lungs and eyes tis not friendly.

my only concern with the acid based cleaners is the affect on the alloy parts on the engine so might be a case of removing the timing cover/water pump back but still worried about the upper gaskets

and still don't know what that rod is :017:

I had no concerns about my cooling system but decided to flush it last time I changed to coolant. I used a can of Wynn's Cooling System Flush (Professional Formula) which I just happened to have. It's safe for all rubbers, seals and metals in the cooling system - so they say.
