I have 94 xj 4.0l (some of you may remember it at birty breakout last year at wooton basset), i have put a set of 35" boggers and it now eats axles (surprise suprise), need to upgrade to stronger axles thinking Dana 60's, are there any other options?? :100:
If 60's is the way to go, does anyone know where i can get a pair?
-
Budget is a key factor!
How you drive it also make a difference. It's possible to make 35s (even boggers) work on a 30/44 combo like stock on a TJ. I abuse 33s on a Dana 30 and Chrysler 8.25 axle combo and they are standard XJ axles (with stronger shafts and lockers etc.)
If you like to use the right hand pedal like an on/off switch then I'd go for at least Dana 44s front and rear. If you want Dana axles you really need to look fr US vehicles (trucks, big van etc.) on eBay or other sites.
There are people who have used Jap axles (Nissan Patrol, Toyota Landcruiser) on XJs and TJs but there is fabrication work involved.
If you have plenty of cash then order some custom Dana 60s from Dynatrac
-
Thanks for the info James.
The budget is not going to stretch to Dynatrac, but secondhand axles are an option. Do you think the 30/44 option is strong enough or even a 44/44 strong enough? Really only want to do this once not each time i go a bit hard!
Generally not a thrasher but do like to give it a good go and show the landy boys the way through not get towed (on three wheels) back to the car park by them!! :icon_redface: :icon_redface:

there's the ford 8.8 axle off an Explorer option
here's couple of of links on how to

I went with a ARB big spline kit as needed a regear and it's a ZJ so i'v got rear disc's
Run 33" just fine

Here a Ford explorer on Ebay

Just make sure you sort out your gear ratio's I think there 4:10 but check
-
they are 3.73. Have one sat around somewhere that needs a rebuild :icon_winkle:

if your running 35's then junk the std rear axle as it will break due to torque loading. look at the chrysler 8.25 from a mk2 cherokee 2.5ltr (29 spline shafts) and run with that or add stronger shafts or fit the axle from a explorer which is the ford 8.8 which comes with rear disks as std but check the ratios so they match your front axle. the 8.8 is rumoured to be equivalent to the dana 44, or you could look for the ford 9.0 but this is harder to locate in the uk.
another option is to source a dana axle from a late transit van as some have these might ave the correct ratio and LSD if your lucky. the front axle should be ok or either source uprated shafts if you want to be safe.
-
Thanks for all the info.
I think i am going for the 8.8 explorer axle on the rear and a 44 on the front just to be safe....:hysterical:
So before i start scouring ebay etc. does anyone have anything available to fit the bill?? :100:
Again thanks for all the info, keep it coming if there is anymore pointers.

Yes, have a spare 8.8, but it needs a rebuild, suspect r'n'p, but not an issue if you are regearing, still has the brakes on it. PM me
