Done it a few times on the "Way Home"

Scared the crap outta me when I put the TJ into a bend hard and tried to brake!!!! Got a tad untidy so put them back on.... Normal driving is fine though..... Not sure what Insurance company would say if you hurt it though!

I've done this too.  Having an OME HD lift kit keeps things fairly tidy when disconnected - but you still notice the difference.  I know a few folk who drive around permanently disco'd too.

However - I'd reiterate what Ed has said.  If you're disconnected, and have an accident, then your insurance company will be quite happy not to pay up on the grounds that your disconnects are for off-road use only, and should be reconnected when on-road.  Anyone else involved will then sue YOU.  :magnify:

It only takes a few minutes to disconnect, and a few more to reconnect - so what's the problem.  :umn:

My 2 Euros's worth.
