During my internet searching for a lift kit for my cj6 i have found the choices limited by the fact that pre-76 springs are a different size to the ones on the later cj,s.
It has been suggested to me that i would benefit both in ride quality and choice of kits if i were to remove the spring hanger brackets and have wrangler yj ones welded in thier place.
So what i would like to ask is:-
1. Is this a worthwhile conversion, do the benefits to ride quality merit the time and cost.
2. Has anyone in Birty,s actually done this already.
I know that opinions vary but i would value any input you might have.
Lastly i will include a link i found for a company that sells bolt on cj to yj conversion kits with taxes and carriage its a rather expensive option for what it is but someone might find it interesting.

Having bought quite a lot of stuff from Rocky Road I can vouch for the quality for their kit - they build it strong and then add some more to it.

How high are you wanting to go? 4 inch kits are available for the older cjs.
Plus you will also find that the chassis has as much flex as the springs as well. :icon_twisted:
My opinion is get the thing on the road and then think about it, you have spent so much time and effort making it into better than showroom condition and it would seem a shame to spoil it with yj springs and take some of its character away, its a 1970s motor and therefore should drive like one i.e awful but so bad it puts a smile on your face everytime. I still drove mine 140 miles to cheapfest (with earplugs in) and ill be doing it again next year as well. :icon_biggrin:

Something I nearly did when the YJ was 'normal'...... :icon_biggrin: was to go spring over....... I was on RE 4.5" spring under at the time....... can highly recommend this for your 6 as well................ (the RE 4.5")
But...... when I extended wheelbase to 106" and went 1 ton I had to go spring over (dana 60 cast spring over leafspring mount!) I now have wrangler heavy duty rears all round which are supposed to give a lift of 5.5" or whatever the thickness of your axle tube and perch amount to. They flex and give good articulation better than the RE4.5" springs even..........
Just a thought.......... about £100 a spring I seem to remember whereas RE springs will cost you £800 to get to Blighty
