I have a couple of questions.....
The catalytic converter seems to be rattling(really bloody annoying), but it passed its emissions and mot earlier in the week.
So question no.1 is- does the cat have any sensors, if not, can I just replace it wth a piece of pipe?
Question no.2- How easy is it to remove the factory fitted stereo head-unit and replace with something else?
-
Q1..Why..
-
Sounds like the gubbins inside are loose/moving around, but it passed it emissions??
-
Q1. Very common for the cat internals to break up and rattle while still passing emission testing. Don't know why but they do seem to be particularly fragile on the 4 litre. I've changed two in the recent past but only because I just cant stand the rattle. Removing the cat may cause problems with both o2 sensors. Not sure about that but you will certainly be running illegally without it.
Q2 No idea, why would you want to?
-
Thanks for that Hillbilly, just what I needed to know. I`ve found a new at but wanted to make sure before parting with the queens head.
Q.2- Don`t know really, it`s making some bad crackling noise but I haven`t really had a look at it properly yet and it could just be dirty/rusted terminals etc.

My cat has been rattling for 6 years now and past every mot with no problems
-
Just a thought Jamie. My local Jeep specialist did me a replacement head for £65. Not sure whether that's expensive or not I just wanted my music back after the tape mechanism jammed and cattled the lot.

After a little listen to the radio, it seems it may be blown speakers. Further investigation required.
As for the cat- it`s bloody irritating, and it masks that lovely 4.0 purr!
