Can anyone tell me why some jeeps from original have a sort of overlap panel at the rear of the wing and some dont?
[attachment=1]
Is there a practical reason at all?
-
if its got an overlap panel its an original or made to oe specs if it hasn't its usually fibreglass, could also be other reasons as well tho
-
I don't know but they are a pain in the ass as its double skinned and when I dug around on mine found rust inner and outter so spent ages cutting it out and welding it back in. would have been much eaiser if it was just one piece
-
the first m38a1,s didn't have the reinforcing panel would presume fenders used to crack
-
plus m38a1s were 2 inches shorter i would bet it was a factory cheat to help them lengthen the panel and the re enforcing factor may have been a help
-
I reckon it would be fairly weak without it and could even resonate loudly
-
m38a1 and early cj 5/6 fenders are 5 inch,s shorter than 1972 amc jeeps[attachment=1]
-
wow even bigger diff than i remember
-
I only ask because the cj6 that i have does not have any overlap panel and the wings are steel, full length and original fitment.
-
Bluebottles have wings. Jeeps have fenders.
