Title: Seat mounts
Post by: chrisjones on February 25, 2012, 10:06:25 PM
I've got what I think is a CJ5 rear seat (not 100% sure though) to fit into Dogface.  Unfortunately it doesn't have the mounting brackets with it and I wondered if anyone has a picture of what they're like?  Under the seat  there is a round tubular front and rear rail approx 1" dia welded to rectangular side rails which are about 2" deep.  I'll try and get a photo tomorrow when its light.

The alternative is to use some of the bucket seat side mounting brackets like those made by the likes of OMP and Sparco.

Here's the seat...

Underside....

There is a flat side rail which I could bolt rally style seat mounts to.  This might still be the easiest solution, but I'd like to know how they were mounted originally.  (and if this is actually an original seat even).

Cheers.

not knowing the original fittings my gut would be to do something that wont damage the seat but will be secure, its only a rough sketch but would be easy and cheap to make

you could also spin that upper u bolt round so it sits within the bend on the plate to reduce the height.

or just make a smaller section  :017:

whole point is you make it to set the seat hight you want

That's kind of what me original idea was. but one on each side running front to back.

I thought a couple of tall "C" sections around 6" tall with 2" lips top an bottom.  They'd need to be about 16" long to catch the front and back rails on the seat.  They'd also give me some storage space underneath which would be handy.

But then I thought that if was gonnna look to do that I might as well just get some fixed side mounting plates designed for bucket seats then I wouldn't have to bugger about with u bolts- I could just drill the side rails.
