whats to stop me from fitting the disk brakes from a zj onto a xj cherokee,
both have dana 35 axles, if it was simple everyone would do it.
so why not, :017:

The rear axle on a ZJ is like putty compared to the rear axle on an XJ i beleive

Nothing, i have them. Need complete brake setup including cables and wheel studs (longer on disc axles). Swopped it all over just have to make new brake pipe end to match the caliper flex pipes and bend to suit (can get away with bending the originals if you can get them out if i remember correctly), had to make a new handbrake compensator to fit as cables are shorter and route them differently. Could do with longer ones really but haven't got round to soucing any as yet.

thanks for that, i can get a back axle pretty cheap and just swap it all over,

Pm warp as he did his xj as a link tbat shows how its done
Just make sure you fit the calipers on the right way round

have a look at this http://jeep.blackonyx.net/tech/disks.htm (http://jeep.blackonyx.net/tech/disks.htm)

its a std upgrade to take the zj disk brake set up and fit it to the cherokee axle, then scrap the zj axle. there are plenty or write ups on the tinternet on how to do it, some say swap over the brake bias valve as well but others say its not needed.
you can do the same fro the front but this is more involved and alot more work in comparison
