Hi All,
A quick search around on this one reveals that it's not all that uncommon. In fact, it's my 2nd XJ to do it. I never chased it down on the first one as it was too late to save the floor, but my new XJ shows no sign of rust so I'm gonna treat it (and stop the carpet from sticking the car out! ;) )
I'm collecting of places to test, I was wondering if anyone could help. It's a sport, so there's no chance of a blocked air con drain issue.
- Primary suspect.... Heater matrix, but it doesn't taste of coolant. I'll still be double checking this.
- Next up, I'm going to take the trim out and sit in it whilst someone jet washes it to see if it's getting in around the windscreen or doors.
- Checking the seal around the heat exchanger.
- Looking for bulkhead cracks.
- Checking around the 4WD selector (although that bit of carpet is bone dry, so I don't think it's there)
- Checking the passenger door... it's had new speakers fitted so I'm wondering if someone's disturbed a bung or not sealed up the plastic liner.
Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.
I think the best comment I've seen whilst looking in to this was along the lines of "If an XJ has water in the footwell, it's because it wants it there. Live with it" :098:

Incontinant Passenger...?

Facelift or mk1??
Think some of the early ones are akin to driving a sieve.
-
windscreen seal or heater matrix are the main suspects.
take carpet out and seal/paint floor and check the electric seat connection for corrosion at the same time.
-
Possibly the seal around the blower fan motor leaking on the bulk head.
Remove the fan, clean and re seal
-
Blocked A/C evaporator drain

check rear wash wipe water feed pipe, mine leaked bad at the joint under the carpet drivers foot well,
hope this helps.......... :icon_winkle:
