Title: 24mm lock / jam nuts for tie rod ends
Post by: nomadsz on April 16, 2012, 11:21:04 AM
HI all

Want to make my own HD tie rods and drag links as i can source the CDS tubing and get it threaded by a local precision shop, the only sticking point is the lock nuts as the WJ has M24 x 1.5mm pitch tie rod ends i have been looking for nuts to match I can find regular threaded 1.5mm nuts but unable to find Left hand threaded nuts. I really don't want to pay the inflated prices of JKS OSG957 nuts and then have to ship them from the USA. ANy ideas or recommendations of good UK fastener suppliers i can contact. Tried alibaba and the minimum order was 5000, Nothing on ebay either side of the pond except the JKS nuts.

Thanks

Will

You could try these folks too.

But getting them made by your friendly engineering shop may be just as easy as NB said.

he can but need to be able to sure i am getting the best possible value and i would need 36mm hex bar which is not cheap and would make a lot more than the 4 nuts i need.

Fair point, I was assuming the machine shop would have something suitable in their steel stock and would cut the appropriate piece off for ya.

i am not doubting jks, but the cost + shipping + tax and the fact that i can get it made cheaper for as good if not stronger.

I am going to try and make or get made my own kit rather than relying on US imports. I must admit i am getting fed up with Parcel force and Fed ex, the delays and paying all the import duty and i would rather keep the brits employed  :flag:

well i think clarkson put it best "american power with british engineering" love the jeep just want to be able to build my bits in the UK. and there is some good precision engineering shops round here and as i am looking for a new job i might be able to make some money making and selling parts to others.

However for now, If i can make it local and for less got to be a good plan.  :icon_super:

However i wouldn't say no to building a 130 station wagon with a luxury interior and hemi under the bonnet.
