Looks like I might need a replacement alternator for my 4l 98 tj.
Will one fit off another jeep? I would like a cheep replacement so I can rebuild mine then have a spare.
-
Sadly you have very few options and all are going to need you digging deep - £300gbp rings a bell!!!
-
wrong, check ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1993-1998-JEEP-GRAND-CHEROKEE-ALTERNATOR-4-0-PETROL-AUTO-/120890975405?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c25a9e4ad#ht_1144wt_959), you should be able to get a s/h one for round 20-50 squid

fair enough :003:

97-98 GC is a direct fit. Part number to look for is 56005686. It's output is up to 136A and has a seven groove pully but you can run the TJ belt on it by using the six that line up.

Buy it then why don't you!!
-
I've just looked on eBay. New ones seem to be about 120 pound and looks like there all interchangeable. Is this wrong ?
-
Well now that you ask the wiring could be different - so long as you have the original some parts can be interchangeable, It's possible to make good.

Why? because I don't need it. My 81 Amp alternator keeps my battery charged just fine. It's handy to know what to look for though should mine ever go tit's up.
-
Fooook me if I said black every other cunt would say white this night - time I shut the fooook up!!!
-
Paul, what exactly is wrong with your alternator, bearings, not charging?
-
Normally they, hang-on I'm saying NOWT!!!
-
I went through the odd puddle or two over Salisbury plain last week. It's now only charging at 12v when it was14v . I'm gonna strip and clean it tomorrow, but would like a spare for the future or if mines shot.
Also lots of squeeks :0(
-
A good clean would be a good place to start, but my money's on the voltage regulator
-
I might have one kicking about somewhere not sure if I will need it (r6005685) genuine mopar
-
is the voltage regulator in the alternator or remote?[attachment=1]

By golly he is right....

Keep your helmet on IomanKY what you need is a quick chat column to vent your frustration on not this poor chap who just needs a simple alternator :greggmo:
-
There's no voltage regulator in the alternator. The PCM modulates the supply to the field coils to regulate output.
-
im just a poor chap that needs a simple alternator :010:
im gonna take my chances on ebay. plenty for under £50, its only gotta last a few thousand miles ...

Look mud and crap clogs the brushes - now I'm dammed!!!
