Well i had two options! Option 1- Spend 2/3rds of my budget on upgrading the 90, to get it on 37's and a V8 OR Option 2- Buy this project.

Having listened to the collective "Jibba Jabba" around several camp fires, it became evident that 2 things were key for my next Project;

1- No girly axles! So you Jeepers better be right with these Dana60's

2- An engine that didnt consume heating oil and sound like a tin being shaken with ballbearings in. I hope i get, at least 35 to the gallon outta this V8!

It needs a few tweeks, things i want to change. But gotta say a fine job has been done on this truck, so far. Getting a truck to this point, is at least 2 years steady work.

I'll set up a Workshop thread when the "Big Red" is sat on the drive.

Yes and i do blame Jez for sniffing this out. Oh and JJ and KingCJ....In fact all ya'll :098:

KOV 13 methinks? "Team Birty Dastards" :003:

As a new birty was a little surprised to find a green badge at breakout
especially in the hands of such a skilled trials setter out - who didn't flinch even with a TJ balanced over his head, at gate 5, with a completely inept drive at the wheel
lovely truck and I'm sue the lights can be changed

Well Candy my old mucker you've got a cracking Jeep there, but very shiny I must say. No doubt after getting it dirty you'll be washing it with nappies and tucking it in at night :)

Proper nice truck mate

headers down to a cherry bomb and 1 pipe to rear....tis quiet enough for the road but at anger throttle level you'll hear it across a field....... tis very nice...... :icon_super:

Mr Wildwood has had his Jeepster anorak on and we have a discrepancy in the Tranny case model stated and the actual model on the truck :017:

Glad he is in my corner on this.....

The motor is a Chrysler 318 with 360 HP cam with the 318 heads skimmed etc to suit.

Gearbox torqueflite727 with new HD internal

Tranny was meant to be a Dana300, but it more likely a NP203 or NP205. I've got the guy to send me an image to confirm. I hope its a NP205....

Axles; New (they look it, but)Dana 60's front and rear.

So whats the issue with the np205? Is it just the restriction on gearing? Is this jeep still open diff?

did JJ's sell?
Title: Re: Big Red 1 Ton Jeep purchase!!!
Post by: wildwood on May 07, 2012, 01:52:03 PM
mark and I looked over this quite carefully and then came away and did the research......

Body and chassis and suspension and cage ....100%

axles turned out to be Dana61 at the front which was done on the cummins rigs to get 3.07 gearing bastard expensive difficult to modify for deep ratios and lockers

Engine was a 318 which is as popular as a Chev 305

Guy had put a 360 cam in so unless other work done you got yourself a dog that'll go bang...... And it wasn't running right...

205 is bulletproof and can handle big block monter horses as a mud truck...... If you get yourself a trouble prone chain drive diff hampered 203 and just use the strong range box you then have 2:1 in each box or combo 4:1.  Just need 799bucks to AA for the adapter.

So it was a no..... But worth a bit less and I think it might sell.......

And JJ sold his  :icon_twisted:

Title: Re: Big Red 1 Ton Jeep purchase!!!
Post by: Warthog on May 07, 2012, 03:01:32 PM
The low range ratio of the 205 compared to a dana300, was killing the crawl ratio. This was evident when driving it.
Who builds a truck and doesnt know the r&p ratios of axles? Really needed to have the covers off the diff and tooth count.
Some things didnt add up until further investigation on tinternet.
As to the front axle, i couldnt get a 100% confirmation of it being a D60, but somethings didnt add up.

An excellant base truck, but with some grey areas in the driveline, that will need to be addressed. All fixable at a cost, but.....

We in the UK don't crawl (strike one) the Buggy is so low geared it makes the engine scream, but due to import duty it had to have its tongue out at 30MPH.

"low range" was impaired in comparison to 1st low in the lardie. Its nice to be able to go slow and controlled and have available torque to climb etc.

In all fairness, i think 3K for what he has got, irrespective of the axle ratios/61?? aint that bad. If you want a Project, that is?

Its a really well built truck. With issues that can be sorted for that money. Time and Money needed though..

Not sure why someone would want the np205 tc and engine though?
