Hi
Can anyone tell me how to remove the spare wheel from the rear door of a 2002 3.7 Cherokee please? The manual says just to remove it..... I have the carrier with the number plate attached but cannot see any sort of release mechanism. It will be something simple I'm sure, but I am confused.
Please help

You're talking KJ, right?
If so, undo the phillips head screw holding the number plate frame in place and it will fold up or down depending on the setup. Under there you will see the heads of two or three short bolts..undo these and the carrier will swing away exposing the wheel nuts.

I'll give it a go later, many thanks :icon_biggrin:

on mine, the phillips head screw is just below the number plate frame and centrally located. I had the same problem when I first got my Jeep...and it took me two days to find the jack and wheel brace!!!!
-
Thanks for that too.... I have found the jack though :icon_biggrin: Amazing what you realise you need right after you bought it isn't it? :icon_rolleyes:

Yep..it's a total learning experience. I had to ring the seller to ask about all this stuff, as mine came with no manual or books at all, just all the previous MOT's. Still, I'm happy with her..cracking little machine!!

How did you go with the spare wheel Keith?
-
Sorry should have replied sooner :icon_redface:
I had to remove the number plate and then undo the two bolts holding the entire assembly in place, it then simply swings away....
Can't believe that I had to remove the number plate though, maybe there is a part missing?
Thanks for all the help and advice though guys :icon_biggrin:

On mine there is a single, smallish screw, dead centre and just below the number plate..undo this and the plate folds upwards to give access to the bolt heads..undo those and then the carrier frame swings open, allowing access to the wheel.
-
Yes Thanks for that. I am thinking that there is a bit missing from mine.... Will need to find out more as removing the number plate seem a bit radical.....

Can you pop a photo for me?

Hope this works.....

Good pic! On mine the screw is just under the number '2', but my plate sits in a metal frame which folds upwards when the screw is undone. Yours looks like a right PITA!!
-
Thanks, my thoughts exactly.....

Maybe you can make a flat mounting plate for the number plate, attach a hinge and mount it so it works like mine does. I'll get mine out of the garage later on and take some pic's for you to get the idea.

Thank you

Raining cats and dogs here at the moment, so may be a slight delay with the pic's.

No hurry matey, it is not keeping me from using the Jeep...... :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:

Fair enough. Still chucking it down and half the country is on Red Alert..a month or so ago we had a similar situation and ten people drowned when a dam burst! Hoping history doesn't repeat itself.
-
Oh wow, find something very tall and incredibly strong to sit upon and don't leave until the water has gone down. Look out for a guy in a big boat full of all sorts of different animals, you will know you are in trouble then :icon_toilet:
Take care

If these pics work, it should make it a bit clearer for you mate.[attachment=1][attachment=2][attachment=3]

May i suggest http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-JEEP-NUMBER-PLATE-SURROUNDS-HOLDERS-SILVER-QUALITY-/190675882225?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c652b10f1 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-JEEP-NUMBER-PLATE-SURROUNDS-HOLDERS-SILVER-QUALITY-/190675882225?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c652b10f1) as a temp or better fix, they do em in just black too
-
That might be just the ticket for him..should be easy to make up a hinge for it.
-
Thanks for the pictures Baz, I guess that I have a part missing then...... I will try and source the part from a breakers yard, and until then hope that I don't have a puncture :icon_rolleyes:
Hi Jeepjedi, I don't really see how that would help matey, I would still need to screw/unscrew it to access the bolt heads.
Thanks for the link anyway :icon_winkle:

You're welcome mate..there's half a dozen KJ's on Fleabay at the moment, in various breakers yards around the country, so you might get lucky. :icon_winkle:
-
I just had a look and could only find 2..... I sent them messages anyway :icon_winkle:
Thanks again

Expand the search..look for anything Jeep..when I was searching for a mirror for mine, the direct search came up with nothing, but the suggestions at the bottom of the page spat out heaps of leads.
-
Keith, did you get that spare wheel stuff sorted? I just came across a bloke on Fleabay with the whole unit for sale..40 quid or make an offer.
His name is Dougie and phone number is 07799798500.
