Title: Headlamp rims.

More trouble.
Little steel clip has fell off the one (CJ) headlamp rim.

Held on by two little pillars of mazak (the rim die-casting), which are peened over like a rivet head.

Any easy fix?

I don't think there is enough metal there to re-peen it.

Aralidite will fail IMHO.

Self tapping screws - will they split the die-casting :01

Or how about a short blind hole tapped for small BA bolts?

The rim is otherwise mint, or I wouldn't bother trying to save it  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Hmmm..............good point.

I'm not sure that my camera is up to it after one of the ferrets knocked a cup of coffee over it.

It did stop working for a while, then started again.

You could either try drilling down the centre of what remains of the post/rivet and then gently expand it by tapping somthing round and pointy (nail?) into the hole, but that relies on there being enough of it left to hold the clip in place.

OR

Your third suggestion.  drill and tap a blind hole for a small set screw.

I've just taken another butchers at it.

Failure caused by a combination of vibration (the rims are not what I'd call a close fit) and corrosion.

I doubt if there is enough metal left to re-peen.

Drill, tap, 2 set screws coated in epoxy resin I think.
