Hello there, ive a 97 xj diesel and before u all laugh i love it -) but today shes failed her mot on nearside upper and lower ball joints and nearside cv joint. The garage what did the mot hasnt got a ball joint seperator so couldnt even give me a price to sort it.Im in the doncaster region and am just wondering if theres anyone who would be interested in helping me do these jobs coz to be frank my skills at things like this a below zero.Dont expect this for free so will be offering any going rate that u think is appropriate. If no one is close or free to do this could anyone recommend a garage in my region i could go to? thanks for listening,as ive said really would like to keep this jeep coz selling it as scrap or anything else is less than she deserves..Cheers Gary

I'm down near Peterborough (but luckily not in it :078:)
just done my balljoints on my Grand Cherokee...... Was time consuming if vehicle has never been apart for 16 years but not difficult.......
I bought balljoint separator kit
you can either borrow or maybe can help you
CV joint if on same side is best sorted at same time (obviously)
I got visual hints from U tube..... just put in XJ balljoint replacement....... Or ZJ which is what I did was very helpful!

Lots to take apart, not tricky but having the strongest ball joint tool possible helps.
I've done a few and borrowed the tool below from a mechanic friend but unfortunately I'm a bit far away and have almost zero free time at the moment

It can be done OK without presses (better with though) and have done a few.
I'm near Doncaster, but at the minute do not have any free time at all - and unlikely to have for a few more weeks - which is no good for your MOT

:017:Been a while since I owned an XJ but I'm sure mine didn't have CV joints??? Might be wrong mind.

i bought a hand press from manchestertools,,,,think it was around £60,very handy bit of kit,,,vids on youtupe show you how its done, but buy a 1 mtr master bar for torgue,,,job was easy,if you take your time.

No need for a 3 ft bar. Just get it as tight as you can with a normal sized ratchet or spanner and crack the end of the knuckle with a BFH. Repeat till it gets easy enough to just push out with the ratchet/spanner.
