OK I gotta give my CJ bodywork a decent chance when I have painted it.
The Jeep is a keeper not a seller.
I'm stripping back to bare metal, I've worked out how long this will take, and it's a realistic goal.
So what is the Etch Primer of choice as recommended by the Birtys :017:
Please bear in mind the fact that I am basically a tightwad, but I can see that in this case buying cheap inferior products will be a false economy long term.

Etch primer bonds better to bare metal, dig deep and make the correct choice.

Yes indeedy.
I don't mind paying good money for good quality products.
But on the other hand I'm not easily bedazzled by some of these companies with slick advertising campaigns and "Wonder" products.
Usually all hype and bribery (of the specialist media)

I have been using U-POL ACID #8 Etch Primer.. :icon_super:
Either available a Halfrauds or Tinternet......
I spray everything with compressor and gun ....... But for small welded areas rattle can cos you only need a dusting rather than a thick coat of etch....
then filler/ sealer primer or whatever your chosen primer...... I only spray cellulose based stuff cos I am old school
But Acid etch doesn't care :icon_twisted:
They also do Weld thro useful if for example you sand blast your axle and leave it until later to weld spring perches and stuff
about £10 or your English pounds sir for a 450 ml can (rattle)

what he said would be first choice, but if price a real problem then maybe concider a zinc ocxide based primer

U-POL sounds good to me.
I used their products many years ago, and never had any issues with the quality, and the prices were OK.
The best etch primer I ever used was called "Guard Etch Primer" apparently, my father used to liberate small quantities of it from where he worked.
It was evil grey/pink stuff, not twin pack, but it had a special thinners.
It probably had its own dedicated COSHH regs too, but I was ignorant of such things in my youth :011:
Dried to a rock hard finish and never ever rusted even when damaged.
Probably been withdrawn on H&S grounds by now though.............................................................. :017:

I had a VW camper which was all faded paint and rust. Spent a small fortune on POR-15, Dinitrol, tools, etching acid, primer, under body paint etc. Mind you I made £4 grand when I sold it so I must have done something right.
