Hi all,
I'm fairly sure my XJ has sprung a transfer case leak, to complement the oil leak. :greggmo:
Lately the TC always seems to look a bit 'wet', and it usually has some kind of fluid on the bottom ready to drip which seems to be an brownish colour. It doesn't seem to be making any more noises than normal though, and I always drive it in 4Hi full-time, so should I be concerned? The various TC settings haven't been run through in a long time :icon_redface: so until I get around to checking the fluid is it a good idea to take it into a field and run through 4Lo, 4Hi, 2wd etc.?
I've got an NP242, so am I right in thinking that to check the fluid level I undo a bolt, and stick my finger in to see if the fluid's up to the top??
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers!
Bryn

yep just un do the fill bolt and put finger in
the leek could be the gearbox output shaft seal

there is also a pin hole breather plug up on the selector side (IIRC) of the TC, check that is still in (looks like a 5-10mm plastic plug)

Cheers guys, I'll give an update when I get around to checking :great:
