Title: Is the (Sat) Navigation crap or is mine donald?
Post by: Forestwalker on June 14, 2012, 11:49:15 AM
Just tried my inbuilt Sat Nav in my '06 Grand Cherokee is is is worse then useless ie. updates the route every 5 minutes (!!), line drawings instead of decent maps, can't select destination by postcode. Are they all like this or is mine Donald?

I haven't seen a SatNav this naff since they first came out way back when  :ecomcity:

Mother in Laws WJ had one in, it was useless and yes no post code finder, just an arrow on the display that changed the way it pointed at junctions.

We had a brand new '06 WK with factory sat nav. £1100 option. It sucked on many levels.

You can pick up a good deal on a TomTom at the moment; IMHO the best make on the market. I do around 45000 miles a year and wouldn't be without mine (plus I got the Top Gear one so Clarkson keeps me laughing...!)

Not that you would, but if you did consider buying one from Halfrauds, beware tom toms are not covered by their normal 28 day refund policy. I know cos I needed one quick and bought one and then nearly came to blows with them last month.. I had to scream and shout to get a replacement...and after doin some internet research I was one of the lucky ones.. incidentally the replacement is spot on..

Believe me they can and they do hence the warning, their disclaimer is that the policy is on the receipt, I'm fairly mild mannered but I lost it big time with them..they only gave in cos the manageress knew i was right and went against the policy. It's a long story best told over a beer but I kid you not, beware...

Believe ARGOS have the same policy with TOMTOMS, but when i bought a Garmin a few years back (3 or 4) i had problems with it and got it swopped .So not sure if that will still work....

I've used the video function on my mobile a couple of times when talking to "people in the wrong". For some reason they seem to change their minds quite quickly and come round to my way of thinking. Helps that I am 6'2" and an ex rugby player.

I have co-pilot on my HTC and it is near faultless. Tends to get pissed on in London with all the ones way streets and tall buildings but don't they all.

So there's no software update or replacement for the inbuilt SatNav then? After another play with it yesterday I am still stunned at how crap it is and how Jeep managed to get away with it!! It is dangerously sh!te. :die:

I came to blows with comet and my TomTom, they had an offer on so I got the TomTom for £150 instead of £300. Great.

After using it a couple of times it kept freezing or turning off and not power back up. Went back to Comet and as folks brought it me for Christmas it was out the 28days.

I argued and argued with them in store but they just said call TomTom. My point was it had live updates and you can see when I activated them when it was first used.

Ended up leaving store after been very vocal and advising other not to buy electrical goods lol.

Called TomTom who said my device was 18months old and had been activated 18months ago. I expressed my anger and they sent me out a recorded package to return it to them. 3days later they sent me a brand new version of what I had that was still £300 in the shops.

Result and TomTom customer services were faultless.

6months and 12k and its not put a step wrong.

I've had two TomToms..the first one was pretty ordinary and kept crashing, so I got on to the parent company and they came to the party with the latest model..all delivered free of any charge to the UK. I brought it over here when I moved and at first it was next to useless because of the lack of maps..contacted TT and was advised that they had no plans for maps of Eastern Europe, so thought I was buggered. My other half is a computer wizz and she fekked about with it and managed to hack into a site and upload all the latest maps..upshot is the device being almost perfect for this country...downshot is I can't connect it to the TT site because they recognise immediately that it's not standard. It gets used here on a very regular basis and rarely lets us down...it's a 7 year old Go700.
