Title: xj steering box

can someone tell me if the steering box need changed out on a 1998 2.5td cherokee,,,is it an engine out job to get to it or was the guy in the pup talking bull.


i have some play in the steering gear shaft to the pitman,not a lot but some,could this be an mot fail,take it this is caused by wear in the shaft bushing and not a part that can be replaced.

he's pulling your leg altho you do need to remove a lot of things  using the left handed screwdriver and you may need to find a few sky hooks to hang the wiring off and don't forget the long wieght.

And don't forget you need a glass hammer to knock the grindle pins back in  :003:

suppose you could take engine out - if you didn't want to get underneath and do it
