charcoal filter for your emissions, or vacuum pot.....

Check if it connects back to the manifold as well. On an XJ it has a solenoid on it that releases trapped fumes back into the manifold and disconnecting and binning it can cause problems. I guess on a CJ or YJ this might not be the case though.

It will/should have a connection to the manifold but on a yj/cj you can just block that and vent it to atmosphere, all it is a canister of activated carbon/charcoal and it takes away the smell of petrol fumes.You can of course leave it there but if its not connnected properly you may as well bin it as it won't do whats its designed to do.
