Its taking some time there's no getting away from that. Most of 1 year of it don't count though as I was a poorly boy and couldn't do anything cos I wasn't capable. At least I have the satisfaction of knowing I'm doing everything myself and its being rebuilt from a completely bare chassis.
-
will be there and can help with set up as have week off before if needed
-
It's in my diary, so all being well with the truck I'll be there... Depending on other half and kids may just be a day trip, but hoping to convince them that camping with a load of jeep obsessed blokes and gals is cool...!

Okay, I'm new here so forgive me, but I can't find any info about this event other than the dates and the location. The event website is dated 2011 and gives no real info.
I reckon I'd be well up for this, by the sounds of it, and also looking through the gallery, this should be a total blast! :icon_super:
So, do I need to book up? If so, how do I do it and how much is it? :017:
-
OOOp's.
-
pay on the day mate, but dunno how much this year, think its £50 for the weekend but dont hold me to it
-
Dont panic Dawg the marketing gurus are probably on the case...text reminders/email reminders...posts on other Jeep forums....

-

If it is 50 quid then Im in
-
we have a club presure washer. sadly we can only use it for emergency cleaning jobs. if we run it for long the farm has no water in the house lol. the price should be 25 per single day or 40 for the weekend. i will double check that the land owner has not changed the price. thats why we call it cheapfest.
-
At least Tank would get his moneys worth thats for sure :003:
-

-
Well i got two sack of wood offcuts and a box of daily mails, don't forget the barrels scrw.
-
Okay, we all know Jeep is awesome and all, and I'm definitely bringing the XJ, but would my brother get a large kick in the nut sack if he came along too in his bog-standard Discovery??
-
More the merrier in my books Mike, there are a few Discos that turn up anyway
-
I think the general rule is friends and family who behave are welcome.
-

Ivan, what have you said, That will exclude half the Birty members :lol_hitting:
-

as long as he don't try to keep up he should be OK, seem to remember quite a few discos dieing at CF over the last few years :hysterical:
-
Regardless of what folk come in they MUST have good front & rear recovery points, bent a very blingy A bar on a standard Disco a couple of years ago but it was that or leave it in the horse-shoe :jpshakehead:
-
As I recall Gregmo has a view on this....
-
He has a view on a lot of things.....mostly non proactive to a happy club... :011: :icon_eek: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

Hmmm, seem to remember not being allowed into cheapfest many moons ago in my white 110 :icon_sad:

-
Seem to recall offering to help set up but was told it wasnt needed in the past......Oh well bollox
-
there are those that do and those who just talk about it
there are folks who i will always share a beer round the fire and others who i want to start the fire with
Shut up Stew :headhack:
-
Only positive vibes from now on :icon_biggrin: Stew go find a person to hug and feel the love :icon_biggrin:
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcannonforhire.files.wordpress.com%2F2012%2F04%2Foddballkellysheroes2t1.jpg&hash=9ed5f579d2272669cb4f1390af5608473d9e4500)
-
Go with those positive vibes... Blues
-
So, now that the dust has settled, what's the crack with my brother's disco?
Would it cause too much of a ruckus if he brought it along? I don't want to tread on any toes or anything :sign0144:
(I am trying to convert him to the ways of the Jeep :icon_twisted: )
-
as said before, as long as the vehicle is safe (clubs discretion, will be inspected before it's allowed on the course) and they abide to the same rules we impose on ourselves (no dicking around / unsafe driving) then should be OK if he comes with a member.
not wanting to sound to harsh but it is one strike and your out, sorry has to be that way to protect the club and the members at the event.
-
Well I am up for having a few beers around a camp fire and I am also happy to take a days annual leave in the Friday to help do any setting up etc and also hang around Sunday to help clear up.
Just need someone to PM me in advance to tell me what is needed.
As for the Disco, My mate Steve brought his shogun last year and was welcomed by all, and has been since.
-
as it stands, with the last few bad months, unless some new work shows up we won't make it this year, can't justify the £150 petrol spend with bills un-paid :010:
-
UNfortunatley due to WORK commitment i wil not be able to attend as it is the same weekend as a major truck show. :010: :010: :die:
-
I'm afraid I won't be able to make it either... I have too many things I have to save for, so just can't afford the fuel to get there. I'd have loved to have come, sorry :icon_cry:
-
its cool guys times are hard everywhere catch at the next one
-
Been absolutely flat out at work for months now, a minor promotion means I'm even busier and working even longer hours than I was before. At least I'm getting paid for it! On top of that, I have friends with car troubles and after a few beers I forget how to say 'No'. Ive also just sold my Passat to a guy in Germany and have to sort the ABS issues before he collects it next week, which basically means I've had absolutely zero time or energy to rebuild my axles on the Jeep :icon_sad:
Ribbo mud is NOT a recommended lubricant......
Fuck it, I need a weekend away with the Jeep. If it breaks, it breaks. So be it.
Think I'll bring a trailer :003:
-
Wasnt that your view last time out
-
Yup :003:
If it aint broke, fix it till it is :icon_super:
-
Ok with work getting more imminant unfortunately that takes priority especially when it involves working away for the week. So there's a high chance i wont be there
-
I will do my best to pop along but it will only as a spectator due to financial and vehicle difficulties.Job i was gearing towards has fallen through
-
Do I need to be taxed and mot'd? Both run out this month and will supper my cheapfest plans completely (feel free to lecture me on lack of planning blah, blah...)
Will be trailering obviously
-
Others came on trailers last year mate so I think you will be fine.
-
Not sure I can make this one!!! Too many balls in the air.
-

plenty of trailer queens so no worries there
we know you and you know your rig so if you say its safe that should be fine, it's only unknown vehicles the club reserves the right to inspect and/or reject
-
well drop a few and get your ass to CF
Not sure I can make this one!!! Too many balls in the air.

-
Peter..I seem to remember the promise of cake! Goes down very well with port, I'm told. :icon_winkle: :icon_winkle:
-
Not enough hours in the day, still not caught up with recent trip away - it's that bad Amanda has gone to the villa without me!!!! (or is that a good thing) As I can't get any time off, things here are shall we say hectic!!!
I will pay for the beers/pizza just let me know what I owe.
-
If you have a last minute opening, regardless of vehicle or not, chez flash is always at your disposal H :icon_winkle:
-
Are we doing fireworks again this year?
-
San Miguel and a pepperoni with some jalapenos on mine please Isle Of ManKY
-
I can't go to KORC because my re gear won't be finished so if the boss lets me have this weekend off Ill be there fingers crossed.
-

Maybe it was your axle that was getting done this morning when i spoke to Steve, I've been waiting since the 16th may for my tera low/2low, steering linkage and rear disc conversion. It will get there in the end. The longer it takes the more money i save for something else :098: When you get it, it will be great :icon_biggrin:

Thats mine!. Rear done, front has issues due to the fact at some time before my ownership the front axle has been replaced and the pinion bearings in master rebuild kit Steve ordered for vehicle in question were incorrect sizes!. Sorry Steve my Jeep is bogarting your ramp!.
-
Are we doing fireworks again this year?
bloody hope so dood - have ya any of the industrial ones left?
-
Usual pre CF call out from me - have i promised anyone anything that I need to pack?
Do I owe anyone (other than CB & Sparky) cash for anything?
Am I picking up anything for me that I have forgotten about?
-
re fireworks-
me and Rich provided the explosives last year, sadly i cant afford the wedge this year but if anyone wants to bring some along we can do a little show :icon_winkle:
-
its looking ominously positive, the frankenjeep may well make it yet!
-
Those bad boys I brought last year cost £70. I'll try and bring some again but fluff is tight.
-

:icon_eek: fookin hell mate, fair play
-
Okay, looks like I'll definately be coming in the XJ. My brother probably won't be coming in his disco now, as he has a bone in his leg.
Anyway, amongst other things, I have 3 sets of safari racks and rock sliders that I want to get rid off cos they're taking up space in the workshop. Is it worth me chucking them on the trailer and letting people have a looksy?
After lubrication, :icon_jook: I'd probably be willing to give a generous club discount! :icon_winkle:
-
got a pic of the racks apart from the one in ya avatar?

I would say, if you have driven the vehicle to the event and intend to drive it home again? That's good enough justification that the vehicle is safe.
If its a trailer queen and your new to the club? Then it would be at the discretion of the Birtys event organisers, to ascertain if it's fit for purpose. Basically it would be scrutinised.
A grown up, will come along an correct me on this if needed :003:
-
from a man who brings a tractor, moonshine and cloggs for midnight wee's lol :icon_biggrin:

Hi, me and some friends are interested in going to cheapfest on the sunday it will be a group of 3 can am quads, an F250 pick up, an maybe a standard cherokee. Just wondered if its ok to bring the quads on this site? they are proper 4x4 can ams and would be road legal. cheers
-
Vincent I'd send a message to Greggmo as he can give you a go or no go. There has been quads go before but best to get permission first
-
cheers, message sent.
-
is the site fairly secure? if i bring tools and whatnot will they be ok or can i borrow someones truck to put em in whilst we are oooot playing?
-
Sites good, always people about, but you bring tools and items at your own risk. I've personally never had a problem as you'll find someone on the camp site most of the time

Sometimes a birty deserves acknowledgement for being a birty over and beyond normal - and the birty is Dtimot8 :023:
Last few weekenders we have convoyed but as Stan is on his first week at a new school I thought pulling a him sickie could be a bit dodgy so we arent leavin until 1530. Tim v wisely is leavin 930 but worked out that Im gonna be there 2100 ish and therefore in the dark so he offered to take my tent up and sling it up for me in day light :icon_super:
that is what I call quality birtyness :greggmo:
-
what he didn't tell you is CB is putting up your tent, so expect the roof as a ground sheet and the door 4 foot of the floor :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:
-
If I come and help out tomorrow, what time am I needed and what do I bring?
-
I will be arriving about 1230 ish now as a job to sort out first, (work gets in the way). So if the signs need doing will sort as norm..
Got the cards from Ivan on board.

Been a cracking day & turnout :003:
Been a few minor mis-haps, a poorly Mindy causing some confusion as to what could be the cause of its reluctance to run, BD popped a tyre off a rim but it was put back on.
Think there were tales of a broken CV joint for someone too.
Off back there shortly for the evenings entertainment :icon_jook:
-
Thanks for the update Gaz.... keep 'em coming :icon_winkle:
-
how does BD pop a tyre when no one has really mentioned about airing down for more grip :icon_biggrin:
-
Driving over my wing mirror i just ripped off driving thought the big mud run at the back of the site

-
Home, fed and showered.
A great weekend, even if I managed to continue my run of breaking things within the first hour :jpshakehead:
Thankfully it was only a front shaft and UJ (smashed the ears off) and the spare shaft that's been cable tied to the roll cage for about 4 years came out to play. Took longer to drink a beer than it did to fix it :icon_super:
Always good to take the piss out of the same old faces, and put names to new faces. Then take the piss out of them too......
Great fun, great crowd, great weather, what more do we need?
-
Thanks for the beer Paul, and a big thanks to Mr Sparky for letting me ride shotgun yesterday, and buy me some beer to boot.Great weekend, even as a spectator, and lovely to see everyone, old and new and apologies if i didnt get to say hello in person.Hope any that have breakages got home ok and get it sorted out quickly

Had a great weekend as always thanks to all those that organise it.
Thanks to willo for the rad weld. apologies to tank on not taking you out in your old motor I will do next time i promise. Also cheera to the rest of the ky crew for going early and putting my tent up. great to put more names to faces. I think cheapfest is the best weekender on the calender freindly and fun.
Also well done to mrs big_patrol who got all 20 punches without winching, Not bad for one of her first goes both offroading and in the wrangler.
Managed somehow a weekend of no real issues.
Thanks
Danny
-
Very excellent weekend all.
thanks to all who made it possible as usual..... Really enjoyed the unseasonal good weather that I don't rememberw in the past!
Think I have turned the "Jedi" head in the direction of '1 Ton' Jeeps.... Had a great time with apprentice winch bitch and punch hunt wrangler......
Journey back thought I had rogered the trans on the GC.... :jump_125: Turns out tis the TPS. So stuttered and slow for the last 50 miles to home. Stopping and switching off for a few mins worked a while until 2 miles from home then pants... So that's tomorrows task......
1 Ton was more able than me so quite pleased with that.......
OH yeah with the weight I am towing with the GC I think more donkeys under the hood are very much needed..... 50 seems to be a happy speed for the rig and down to 40 on hills.... Just won't do will it :icon_twisted:
-

I didn't get much chance to go off road, but enjoyed chillin' out in the sun, and meeting new faces as well as chatting to old friends. Looking forward to the Turkey Hunt in December.

Hope you boys got home ok & Mark, hope the tape didnt hurt when it got pulled off :icon_eek:
-
Did BD play with his ding-a-ling for everyone?
-
Oh yes :hysterical: :hysterical:

Thanks to everyone for making a great weekend. It was great to see so many faces, some I haven't met before, some I haven't seen for ages.
The offroading was good and there were some chuckles had with Rob, Jeremy, Jedi, Tim, Mark, Clayt, CB.....and all the others I probably bumped into drunkenly.
The XJ continues to surprise me but is due some care and attention so I'll probably see you all in a few months time, Turkey Hunt maybe.

Well home from Worcestershire A&E around 1:30am
Unknown to many of you, I managed to stab myself in my Right Arse Cheek! Done when my knife fell out of its sheave when in the Truck. Then wedged itself, waiting for me to slide onto it next got out
So 8 hours later, I'm back home with a sore Arse cheek taped upped, and minus a pint of blood!
Pride absolutely destroyed and many a piss take coming my way :icon_redface:
Kudo's to Clayton and Hannah for their response team efforts :023:

CHEAPFEST 2012
Birty Dastards’ Cheapfest at Ribbesford Woods was fun,
The weather was quite perfect, early clouds dispersed by sun.
Of Jeeps a good selection, Wranglers, Cherokees and Grands,
With Willys and Mahindras to make up our happy band.
Our total count was 48, with foreign guests a few;
Although outnumbered they took part – Land Rovers, Nissan, Isuzu.
Tombola was a great success to help increase our fund;
Ted sold out all his tickets as soon as it begun!
Ali baked a lovely cake, she makes one every year;
Lornaben won it, his pleasure was so clear.
The campsite was invaded by a herd of cows – in fact
Jeep drivers became cowboys, and tried to hold them back.
The off-road site’s been altered, they’ve changed things all about –
The routes we used to go in now we have to come out.
Of course some parts got broken, it just adds to the fun;
Of course some needed rescuing – Bulldog more than once!
The off-road site was great fun good times were had by all,
But alas, alack for one Jeep, the AA had to call!
It really is a pity Cheapfest is only once a year
(The Turkey Hunt is next up, so keep your diaries clear!)
We mention everybody who made our weekend fun;
We know it means a lot of work – so thanks to everyone!
Lesley Morley

Forgot one there :
All were safe and sound on and off the grass
but there was one who got severely bitten in the ass.
:hysterical:
-
Forgot to say, big thanks to Tackleberry for my coffee and breakfast both mornings, though the mk 2 brekkie was far superior :003:
-
Birty, can you please create a gallery for the event so we can all post our pics :icon_biggrin:
-
and birtys is is not well represented on youtube

Sorry for the delay but here is my weekend at CF in pics:
First 40 yards - bottom of the hill:
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi734.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww345%2FBillSavage%2FCF%25202012%2F2012-09-08123542.jpg&hash=7fe2baa137d1ad6491b3582bd7f9f45c0ede2bd3)
Next 60 yards - top of the hill:
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi734.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww345%2FBillSavage%2FCF%25202012%2F2012-09-08132340.jpg&hash=93b230e642a7fc831bcba802c95a00ee7a352375)
Whole 200 yards to get wedged:
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi734.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww345%2FBillSavage%2FCF%25202012%2F2012-09-08160219.jpg&hash=79f7f1f9011f2d49dd5e842b4912e60b337ed293)
Calling 'Bulldog Rescue Team':
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi734.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww345%2FBillSavage%2FCF%25202012%2F2012-09-08161213.jpg&hash=c0a9ce5ad24f36363768e5a904ace95277f80d3d)
Can we fix it:
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi734.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww345%2FBillSavage%2FCF%25202012%2F2012-09-08171012.jpg&hash=99ce1232fcbd198f86b6442da9350b060ea6720a)
And while we at it can another Bulldog Rescue Team fix this bit as well:
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi734.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww345%2FBillSavage%2FCF%25202012%2F2012-09-08200732.jpg&hash=8b3b1973d94eafa8287c301af5a06f86a018c5f6)
However, alls well that ends well as Sid is confident he can fix it on the M40:
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi734.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww345%2FBillSavage%2FCF%25202012%2F2012-09-09182111.jpg&hash=97bfa06c06bc8ee68a9a807e5c57d8c8eafa9cc2)
And it would be remiss not to add the not so muddy as usual pic of Sid (he had waders on all weekend and a vectis racing t-shirt):
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi734.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww345%2FBillSavage%2FCF%25202012%2F2012-09-09182135.jpg&hash=d69bab2d5ed00adfca266838bb8708b7a098a214)

didn't have time to make them before CF but if anyone who attended wants one PM me for an address where to send a self addressed, stamped A5 envelope and you will be sent a sticker in a few weeks.

I think Gail and Steve got all attendee's to write thier name and address on the entrance form. With the intentions to pass them onto you Bruce?
-
:imwitstupid:
That was the plan.
I know know I said I'd pick one up next time I saw ya, I'm sure a few others will have done the same.
If you'd prefer we all sent you an SAE to keep things simples then will do. I must have your address somewhere.........?

Seems a bit over the top just to carry your recovery gear and spare parts :peekaboo:
-
errrr I have the Bulldog recovery team for that :greggmo:
I reckon sling a honda C90 engine in and it should be unbreakable :003:
-
And there was me thinking this thread revival was to celebrate some good news to do with sticky bits of plastic .. but no it's about a tank for sale :011: ... stupid me :010:

Did they have a reverse?
-
Well it clashes with a trial with my local club, but it's just as close and it's a good site. What goes on at cheapfest? Just a play day jobby? Cost of entry?
-
play day for the divs (me) but they set up a trials course (just for fun) and punches etc
dirt cheap for the weekend, think it was £30 for the fri-sun
its a cracking weekend, if I was only gonna do one each yr it would be this one
-
Sounds good. I shall most likely pop over for a couple of days truck bashing! :icon_biggrin:
-
Date for 2013 Cheapfest event to be confirmed shortly :icon_winkle:
-
 waiting :icon_biggrin:
must start planning our toe dipping sessions
