OK Rubber duck, bandit you got your ears on
I am looking for a CB radio for my WJ preferably single din sized or has a Single din adapter.
Which are the good brands? how much should i pay for a CB that will be used for Green laning and pay and play days they seem to go from £40 to over £200 :icon_eek:
How powerful should the anttena be 500w enough or is 2000w too much? Is it more power the better?
Some advice required please
thanks
Will

just get a cheap ariel like a stinger they are strong and will survive a a lot of undergrowth abuse, din sized CB's are not common but more becoming available, easier to find are CB's that have fitting kits but if din mount is a must then your choices will be limited anyway and may be a case of what you can find if looking for used or just paying the price if going for new

din mount kits are cheap on ebay

Midland Alan make good sets. They do a DIN fitting one now too (if I remember right).

Meant to ask before, Mr H..do you run a CB in the truck you're bringing over?
-
Yes, it has 4 band options.
-
Good stuff. I have an old Kernow Beta 4100 which I picked up at a car boot sale for 50p about six years ago..works ok as I talk to the truckies on the highway which is about 12 miles from here. I use a s/s whip antenna about 4ft long and has a magnetic base so I can change vehicles quickly.
I'd like something better, but cbs are pretty rare here..most folk buy them outside the country.

thanks gents i now feel properly informed. now just need to show the fibre of my fabric :icon_super: :icon_biggrin:

Had two or three from them. Never had a problem and they give sound advice.

I've just been looking at a Midland Alan 248 which seems to be good, especially if you ever want to drive around in Europe as well as the UK..legal everywhere because it is programmed to be. I'll be considering one of these myself.
Another contender is the Albrecht AE 6890 because it has a remote head which is removable.
Both sold by Mr H's people.

Budgeting or getting a deal for a "Handheld" is a wise option. They come in handy for roaming winch bitches and the kids can have it on them if out adventuring away from you.
-
Some good kit on that site, especially like the little cobra. My cobra's 12 years old still going strong dispite daily use.
Avoid the Intek CB's as everyone at work including myself have had them fail.
Also the 5 foot stinger and 5 foot thunderpole orbiter antenna are about the best you can get for little dosh and very rarely need tuning, as long as you have a good mount SWR is usually spot on.
-
I've got one of the little Cobra sets in Dogface. (I've had Midland sets before but this is nice and small) After initial problems which turned out to be caused by a dodgy mic it seems a nice rig.
-
I've been chasing around the CB scene the last couple of days and finally located a seller over here. He sells Midland and President in reasonable number and he advised me today that the latest models of Midland are pretty tacky and have been giving problems. President has a five year warranty, so guess that's where I'm going. The prices here seem to be somewhat lower here also..between 15 and 20% less.
-
Bit the bullet..President Jackson II ASC arrives tomorrow morning. Couldn't resist the 20 watt transmitting power on Side band..can talk to Australia when conditions are right.

I decided to go for this one eBay auction: #300731292923

I've got a Midland 38 for sale, £25.00 plus postage

I decided to go for this one eBay auction: #300731292923
Result :icon_super: Good little rig and gets a positive write up..should do all the things you need. Consider getting a compatible handheld to go with it and you'll be totally set up.

Good price, I may just get one of them Cobra's myself. You'll find you may have to open the mic up and resolder the wires every now and then as their a little brittle, still a very good mic though, nice and chunky with no stupid buttons to press.
-
They are a sweet little number indeed...6 or 7 pounds will get you a better mike should you ever have any problems with the original one. Lots out there to choose from.
The main claim to fame is their size..fit almost anywhere. I'm gonna stick one of these in the good lady's Yaris.

:icon_redface:What's yaris code for then?
