As the title says - really wanted to go petrol big V8 in the Kaiser coz Im not feelin the love with the diesel & manual on it - I really really really dont like manual
So obvious solution (ie cheaper) is to find an auto box that mates up to the perkins and can be used in conjunction with the divorced transfer (new words explained to me today :003: ) on the Kaiser.
Any ideas? Thoughts? Nowt over complicated ideally coz Im feelin beat down with the endless Jeep work I have to keep thinkin about so easy, if it exists, is best.
Cheers :greggmo:

Hey just because you experiment with back passage technology.
-
Well if you would get a truck with a boat engine!
You may be better flogging the perkins and getting a different diesel & auto box as one unit, GMC v8?
-
then I may as well go petrol V8, and amc would be logical as I have a plethora of gearboxes
-
hurry up then!
A bit of googling couldn't find an auto box for the perkins, so its adaptor time??
-
7 weeks holiday and cant be arsed to change gears :icon_rolleyes:

yeah I couldnt find owt either, but if I go adaptor route its more expense

Find a Range Rover conversion plate and fit a Rangies auto box, only problem is it will have a transfer box attached to it.
On the bright side you could have a two transfer boxes and end up with a super low crawl speed though :003:

Forgot to say performance will be dire but for originality's sake did they use autos in Nam?

and mocaj would so not like this thread :003:
so lets reorientate - which auto box to make my life cheap n easy?
and screw nam, or Im gonna end up sellin it on if it stays manual
-
make the box you have fit!
-
ok, I have a TF999 spare - what do I need to do?
-
adaptor plate & modified flexplate
-
made or built?

The 6.354 is a 6 cylinder version of the 4.236 allegedly so they have the same bolt pattern.

fook knows, I have had adaptor plates made up, but you will need to find a flex plate to attach the Torque convertor to, maybe mod one off another engine

lawd will have no idea how useful all that stuff is :peekaboo:
but I could be delving into the pot if its what im after

So....
Things do move on when I go away don't they..... Even for a day :jpshakehead:
If ya don't like the boat engine and the manual what about that Caddy and Th 400 we were looking at...... Just a few adapter bits to fit a transfer case and happiness all round :icon_twisted:
-
its the few bits Im worried about - who, where, how much etc
-
Novak and Advance adapters ....... Just give em an e mail with what your doing and they will tell you what and how much. :icon_super:
-
Would advance adaptors make an adaptor for a Perkins :hysterical:
The stuff above would mate a Range Rover gearbox to your engine but its made for a manual gearbox so like Scrw says you would presumably need a flex plate drilling and then you would have to either use the Rangies transfer box and get rid of the seperate one or get rid of the Rangies transfer box and fit some sort of drive coupling to the auto box.
I have no idea how strong the Range Rover stuff is either, it may not last 5 minutes with that engine and hulking that thing about but the same may be said of the TF999.
The trouble is whatever you do it means having something engineered somewhere and if you dont know anyone and cant draw what you want precisely you are wasting your time and are better off just sticking to the manual box or finding something else with an auto box already
Dont you have any spare AMC V8s anywhere?
-
If you go making adapters and trying to stuff any old auto in it will probably cost you a small fortune and end up even worse then the manual and boat engine you have. If you do want to change it would probably me much easier to pick up one of the chevy diesels with an auto already on it. At least you know it will run and the torque converter will match the engine.
