Title: Squealin TJ
Post by: Dodster on February 20, 2006, 05:34:30 PM
The last few times on start up its squealed for a few seconds then bin ok. Its now got worse so that it squeals longer and the battery dont charge, eventually it picks up and its ok till the next time.

Im probably wrong but i associate this with the drive belt slippin or the alternator being bost. Ive also read somewhere that it could be the alternator pulley bearings making the noise...

Am i in the right direction?

Appreciate any advice
Phil

I would hazard a guess at it being the serpentine belt,  (mine did it for a bit). The tensioner for it is on the opposite side to the alternator, just below the power steering pump.

Phil
Try tightening the serpentine belt - bolt near power steering fluid tank

Check the belt for condition as well
