Title: Dana D44
Post by: cheese_aholic on August 24, 2012, 09:00:27 PM
Is the D44 axle on my TJ equipped with a LSD does anyone know?? If so, do I need additive when changing fluids? Was told not in a previous post, but have now read that the D44 has a LSD so thinking maybe I do...?? Confused... (as always!)  :017:

i thought you said you have ARB's but the compressor is broken  :017:

If this is so you need NO additive as the ARB replaces the LSD

to check if it has LSD. with vehicle in neutral jack up one rear wheel and try spinning the wheel by hand. if it spins then no LSD (or the LSD discs are severly worn). if it wont turn then it has LSD

use diff oil thats suitable for LSD diffs as labeled on the container then no need to add any additive

Thanks MOCAJ. I do have ARB lockers so that's answered my question thanks. I thought that was the case, I just read somewhere that the D44 axles have LSD and it got me thinking about the additive.
As an aside, I've now repaired (thanks to the helpful guys at Devon 4x4) the compressor and the diff locks seem to work fine! Yay!
