Title: LSD additive
Post by: spotter7 on August 26, 2012, 08:53:54 AM
:icon_jook: Morning gentlemen and ladies of course. Am going to change all the lubricants in my WJ 4.7 V8 Overland - have found all the ones I need thanks to a list posted on here some time back but can't find the LSD additive mentioned 04318060AB but have found 04318060R !!! Now am I being extremely dull or can I use this ? It's made by Crown Automotive. Or can I use any LSD additive such as Torco ? Feel free to use and abuse > I've got a hangover so hoping for some gentle kind answers - ha !! :icon_jook:

Yes it's the same stuff, you can get it from Mansfield 4x4 for about 6 quid. Use decent synthetic gear oil and change it at least every 30K mikes.

Many thanks Mike - much appreciated. Will do re the decent stuff - not worth scrimping a few quid here n there for the sake of keeping my baby running well.

Aren't mk 1 XJ's fitted with LSD ??

I know the mk2's had open diffs.

Jarek, if you have a limited slip diff fitted (LSD) you need to put the addative in  :icon_winkle:

not all xj's were fitted with a rear LSD. Jack up on rear wheel and see if it can be rotated, if it cant you stand a chance of having a LSD. for piece of mind i'd stick some addative in it doesnt cost much in comparison to a diff rebuild and friction plate replacement

hi All,
i did change diff oil, and put additive... but i think i dont have lsd or it stopped work.
Is it pricey to repair it (if i have lsd type diff) and can i change it for one if my diff is not broken but just without lsd?
when i jacked up rear end and moved one wheel the other moved in other way? what does it mean? is it broken lsd or diff without it?

Means you have an open diff and you do not need additive.

If in doubt always use the additive as it will do no harm.

Jack up the rear so both tyres are off the ground, turn a wheel, if they both turn the same direction success you have a LSD, if not don't loose any sleep over it.
