Hey peeps.
I have an ORO Swayloc system fitted to my TJ. While the air cylinder disconnects everything OK, it seems the inner and outer torsion bars are seized together.
Can't for the life of me separate them, so looking at replacement with ORO bits (not so good reviews as far as I can see) or replace with a different system all together (Currie Anti Rock seems to get better reviews...)
What is the general concensus...???
-
JKS disconnects, simples :003:
-
Don't think I can fit them with my current set up can I (I.e. non standard sway bar etc...)?
-
spend some time on yours

spend some time on yours
That's deffo my first choice, but at the moment I can't separate the inner and outer torsion bars so effectively the whole setup is in-usable.
If I have to spend big bucks to repair it, is it worth considering changing the system to something more reliable?
Any birty thoughts and experiences appreciated....!
-
can you soak it or leave in a vat of oil or thinners/atf
-
I've covered each end liberally in penetrant spray and left overnight, and then treated regularly throughout the next day with the same spray, but still no joy! Don't want to hit it too hard with a sledge, and I'm afraid twisting it may just shear the small diameter spline end off...
-
is it possible to get heat from blow lamp in there to make the two parts expand at different rates.....and then free up?

I have thought of that - trouble is the thing is seized at both ends, and it's 4 foot long, so I'd need to do both ends simultaneously! I may give it a go though, and see if I can free up one end at a time...
-
if your thinking of junking it due to the expense of repair, soak it in penetration fluid the heat the sucker up.
-
I have an anti rock not in use if you do wanna buy one

Tried that to no avail (apart from some cool flames as the penetration oil caught fire under the blowtorch!)
Bugger still stuck tight!
I have a friend who runs an auto parts workshop who may be able to help...
Last resort really...

May well be interested in that - how much and where are you...? PM me if you want... Ta.

take it all off and see how you feel on the road, will roll a bit more into corners
if its not there then not an mot fail
i have run without mine for long periods,
if you dont like it the return to stock with JKS disconects, very simple set up
all these fancy sway bars are BS :icon_winkle:

Be quite happy to return to stock with some JKS; is that easy now its had a fancy one fitted?
-
will need to source stock sway bar and mounts from a breaker, dont need the drop links then some jks discos
-
Sounds easy - may well end up down that road MOCAJ, thanks for the info...

For a fit-n-forget these work with 2" lift.

You need to go disconnect.
Interested in the history of your long arm, who did you buy it from?

Not exactly sure of timescales but the RE lift was done (I believe) by Steve at FTE back prior to 2006 (that's about as far as the history file goes back)
The Jeep itself has had a few owners, and was in fact advertised on this very site back in October 2006 by 'dodgyjeep' http://www.birtydastards.com/frm/index.php?topic=4169.0 (http://www.birtydastards.com/frm/index.php?topic=4169.0)
It's had very little Off Road use in recent years (certainly none since late 2009 when FTE gave it a big overhaul). I'll hopefully be re-dressing that balance shortly!
If anyone else has any history of the beastie I'd appreciate it - every little helps as they say...

I have a repaired tj antiroll
Bar. Works fine if any use?
-
bin the whole thing and run without
-
Thanks all for your advice so far...
I think if I can't get the current setup sorted (i.e. get the ORO bars un-seized) then I'll take the whole lot off and run without (albeit carefully on road, although it's not like I fling it round corners as it is!!)
If I need I can always get an OEM antiroll bar and fit that with disconnects (thanks for the offer Willo; I'll keep it in mind...)
Onwards and upwards - at least my diff-locks seem to work - although I've still got funny noises coming from the front with my hubs engaged; getting used to it now!!
-
I have a spare anti rollbar if you want one

Thanks Rob (you're a bit closer than Willo so may be calling you in the near future!!)

Do you still have this available Rob, and if so how much fluff would you like for it? (tried to PM you but wont send message for some reason...)
-
Well, the combined engineering arm of Caterpillar UK couldn't free my ORO sway lock bars, even with a 5 tonne press on the job!!!
So...
Willo has sorted me a repaired OEM sway bar - just after some discos if anyone has some going that would fit... (scrw - do you still have some - if so do you know which ones they are exactly...?)
-
Typical! The same day that my Willow supplied sway bar turns up (thanks chap!) my mate proudly announces he's sorted my ORO ones out!
So...
Having read horror stories about the reliability / design / cust service (first hand experience and it is shit) of ORO I have modified it into a single rate sway bar; essentially when its disconnected there's no direct link between the front wheels so should be OK for off road and no danger of the small torsion bar shearing when 'disconnected' for off road use (which is what seems to happen...)
When connected I've got good on road manners... (well, the truck has...!)
Only small bummer is my compressor has stopped working again; seems the spare motor is faulty! Had to wait 6 weeks for the bloody thing in the first place so back to Devon 4x4 on Monday...
Good day all in all - just thought I'd share....
