So, axles done, hydroboost fitted, new brake lines all round, new bleed nipples, BUT, cant get the rear drums to work. Fluid goes up to them but wont bleed. Pistons dont move. This is on both sides. Had a small amount of fluid seep out of the seal when heavy pumping.
Handbrake works. Front discs work.
Any ideas before I ring lightys for new pistons and trek off to a monkey in a boiler suit brake centre?
Kinda panickin now :icon_eek:
-
new bleed nipples blocked. try the old ones if you can.
-
Has it got brake proportioning valve fitted???

dunno, but if has/hasnt?

changed them coz the old ones were fubbared
-
did you get the right ones? and did you check they were clear before you put them in.
-
If it has,it limits flow to rear brakes according to the load.
They can seize.
-
actually take a bleed nipple totally out and see if you get fluid out of them then if not then there could be a blockage inside the cylinder itself.
-
The world of forums suggests as there is a seep its new pistons, there is def fluid gettin up to the bleed poin, its pisses out at the hubs if the line is disconnected.
So, i seem to remember (not got it with me) accordin to the Jeep workshop manual a special tool is required - is this so? Any cheats?
Or am I gonna have to go cap in hand to a brake centre monkey?
And why is it every friggin weekender brings me last minute trauma :011: co n no Chief, no CF :010:
-
Looks like the Saigon Sally Troop Carrier will be coming then...????? :icon_twisted: :icon_super:
Stop and pick up some entertainment then mate....... "Wiky Wikky slamm slam"
-
Unfortunately had so much to do on the Chief that Im no closer to having done the brakes on the Kaiser :011:
No Chief, No Truck, No CF :jpshakehead:

Is there any movement of the wheel cylinder when you pump the pedal ?
Take the drum off again and have a look :icon_eek:
:greggmo:
-
no
and? :100:
-
so is this the underlying brake problem you have had all along ? and you have loads of d44s so rob the wheel cylinders from one of them
-
Coud well be but the rear offside woud lock up if i stamped on the pedal before the axles were done
-
So are they easy to change or do ya need owt special?
-
Take it to some one who knows what they are doing you are carting your kids about in it after all :ecomcity:
and for what they cost id ring Lightys and get new cylinders they arent expensive and at least you know that they are right, assuming that is the problem of course :003:
-
had the same thought ref lightys
but they gotta be done within the nxt few days and i dunno anyone local who can do them - hence monkeys at brake centre etc
they need doin asap coz of runnin axles in
(& my back is fucked again today :011: )
-
seems special tool stuff is bollox, so on the blower to lightys 2mrw abd fingers xd all sorted by tuesday, otherwise its weepin by wednesday
-
Ya don't need special tools on drum brakes, a small flat blade screwdriver and a small pair of long nose mole grips is all I use.
Taking the wheel cylinder off is one pipe fitting and 2 bolts.
If you take one off an old axle, make sure the cylinder is dry and not leaking. Its a bastard if a cylinder leaks brake fluid over nice new shoes :banghead:

Don't Panic!
I'd go for getting new parts from Lighthouse and either doing it yourself or ring around the most convenient local garages to you to see who sounds most intereted and capable of doing it for you.
Plus rear brakes do naff all anyway, you'll be fine without them :icon_eek:
-
Seem to recall that my rear brakes in one of the SJ's didn't work either. Turned out to be corrosion blocking the brake lines.

Also check the flex hose is not blocked..
-
All new hose etc back to front
Lightys to the rescue - hopefully on door mat 2mrw and hopefully that works
And I agree James, had crossed my mind that the front brakes doin a good enuff job on their own :003:
-
hell frickin yeah :icon_super:
new wheel cylinders and we is back on for CF :greggmo:
just the freshly galvanised bumpers and winch to fit :icon_super:

:icon_super: :icon_super:Nice one Ade.

Good man
you will have to pass on the the toy spanner now you go to grips with the steel ones :icon_super:
-
Someone else will of done it, he would be too afraid to ruin his manicure doing that horrible oily job :003:
You got room for two more axles at the weekend BD?
-
Of course I didnt do it :003:
that should be obvious coz it works :steeringwheel:
however, I did order the parts and sound vaguely like I knew what I was sayin when i did :icon_super:
-
Did you find a new local garage?
-
good old bro came up trumps once again, he wasnt sure bout it as he hadnt done one before but turned out to be a piece of piss
