How much play should there be in the spider/side gears?

more than you would expect but never measured them you do mean the mesh not how they fit the shaft ?

FSM states "Differential Side Gear Clearance . . . . .0.12–0.20 mm (0.005–0.008 in.)"

It doesn't mention any adjustment that can be done though.

good-o then, puller turned up today so will yank the thing apart in a bit.
