Title: Nut thingy wot holds up the skid plate

Now as you know I'm with the BD school of mechanics
It always ends badly if i even go near a spanner
Checking the bolts on the belly up skid plate before my trip to Gatesgarth Pass this weekend I find that they don't do up really tight, but seem to spin
I vaguely recall reading on one of the US forums that they use some weird nut for this
does anybody know if i can get new ones and where or is there a better solution?

 I took my factory bolts to the local bolts and nuts supplier and got them to give me ones to the length I needed.

Sort of ....Can I have 6 at whatever length like this and with the same thread please Mr shopkeeper?

Thread identification is still a black art to me :icon_twisted:

do the bolts come back out? if so it would sound like the backing nut needs a spanner on it when you do it up

I don't have thread pitch issues. Years ago the old fella picked up a thread file/pitch checker. Bit of square tempered steel with toothed thread pitch different one on each side and end. So 8 different pitches. Bloody handy tool. :)

argh yes seen things like that ..... But only recently from Frosts ......who also do POR stuff in the UK......

Must get some so I can wax lyrical about UNF or is it UNC and whit worth and stuff....... Oh yes......
Tis a pain when your Jeep is held together with Imperial or standard as the septics call it and also Metric...or Catholic as a mate of mine calls it. :icon_super:

They use heavy duty nutserts to fasten the bolts to the frame on the TJ. I have no idea what vehicle you have but the TJ nutserts and bolts can be bought from the blackmagicbrakes.com co-operative section

sorry for delay been up in the lake froding inc. Gatesgarth pass - awesome
i'll get some spot welds on the not serts that install in the chassis
if that doesn't work then will get some new ones from US of A

Mine are actually spot welded in from the factory. For some reason I think they stopped the tack welds in later years.
