Agree with above Tis the cheapest route and you could get a complete vehicle.....to get wiring gauges and ECU for under £500 or less and there you go depending what you want to do in the gearbox transfer case dept.
But an adapter from XJ to CJ box is the only big spend.
At least it will still be a Jeep :icon_biggrin:

find a rotten xj take the engine gearbox and transfer box and put it in, make sure you get the engine management and transmission controllers and you will end up with a cj that will do decent mpg on a run, great off road and basically a bolt in conversion apart from getting props made up.
-
xj front diffs on the other side to cj
-
Your all saying put a 4.0litre in, but has anyone here actually done or seen this in a CJ? :017:
Possibly better to rebuild, but dig deep it wont be cheap whatever you decide to do :010:
-
seen it done in an early 4.2 engined yj but that retained the tf 999 as it bolts right in.

I was looking this up a couple of weeks back to if it could be done, and a lot of people say it works fine when using a harness like this: http://www.hesco.us/shop.asp?action=details&catId=&inventoryID=43052 (http://www.hesco.us/shop.asp?action=details&catId=&inventoryID=43052) :greggmo:
It's not exactly cheap though, and they're in the US, so might take a while to get here. :icon_rolleyes:

You can put any engine in any vehicle, its more a question of how much time and money you have, when i did mine there were lots of issues, ie lump in sump at front and not back, exhaust system, fuel tank modifications, pump etc, wiring harness was a bit of a pain, i sat at the kitchen table for a few days taking out the wires i didnt need, then the transmission :icon_eek: i had to modify the bellhousing, the clutch arm, the spigot bearing, the spacing between the trans and the bellhousing :ecomcity: then had to fit a different radiator and cooling fan, fan switch, engine mounts :jpshakehead: thats all i can think of at the moment but im sure theres other stuff, a lot of it is time more than money,
