Title: new problem with ZJ
Post by: Nosebolt on October 17, 2012, 03:25:24 PM
had a water leak for past few weeks, tried K-seal which slowed it down for a bit but as not had time to take car off the road to to a propper repair it has got gradually worse now needing a top up after every trip.

then today it felt like it was going into limp mode for about 10 Min's after getting stuck in in traffic for a few miles, this is the fault that is worrying me, could it be related to the water loss or am I looking at expencive electrikery

Limp mode for me was a TPS.... Have had 3 TPS go on me 1 on the YJ and 2 on the ZJ and they all displayed different feelings or drivability results.....£35 and now available from Luke and Bo in Diss :icon_twisted:

Didn't come up on the on off key trick for diagnosis code........
But am told that plug in code reader that plugs in above the brake padal will reveal a fault.....

also TPS only badly behaved after a few hours of towing back from CF...... Few days later start up and drive around block and no prob.......
Clue was that on way back pull in and stop for 10 mins or so (about five times) :jpshakehead: to let things get cool and prob went away for 5 or 10 miles then back and got worse till next stop.....

not very scientific ........but best I could summon at the time :icon_twisted:

I believe You can test the tps with a meter on ohms it is just pot in a poncy casing
If you measure between the middle pin and one of the outer pins and turn the center the reading should very smoothly
I think it should be 74k max but not sure

The TPS is a foooook of a thing, the scanner does not always pick it up - indeed you can use the ISHmeter approach but this is still hit-n-miss. for the cost just buy one and fit it,

:iagree: that would be the best as if it's intermittent you may not find it faulty when your testing the tps

it's not buying the pump, that was reasonable from lighthouse £70ish delivered, its having to fit the fucker I aint looking forward to.

btw a bottom hose was £10 more than a pump, needless to say I didn't buy a hose

:ace: new water pump fitted (with my usual call to Kev half way through) and touch wood, the water leak is fixed, going to wait on the TPS as a few people have said it may have been picking up on the temp changes, and the fact the lightys only have gens at £75+ so hoping it's sorted but will get a pattern TPS when in stock and keep it in the glove box.
