Hey Folks,
My steel wire winch rope is getting a little battred and damaged.
I would like to go for a plasma rope, so do you know which make/supplier i should go with.
I am after a decent quality one, at a decent price.
Cheers,
Andy B

David Bowyers at Goodwinch - 12 strand synthetic Dyneema Bowrope
www.goodwinch.co.uk (http://www.goodwinch.co.uk)
Used mine in anger for the Highland Ironman Enduro, excellent rope, very light and stronger than wire rope.
-
no wire is cheaper and it works
-
i am using the dyneema aswell, it is very easy to use compaired to steel and seems very tough. having said that steel works just fine and it is cheap. as long as you treat your winch with the respect it deserves you should never manage to snap a rope anyway.

Thanks for the advice guys,
Had my steel cable for 3 years and has served me well. Would prefer to go plasma next due to the advantages it has over steel.
-
the only true advantage i have seen first hand is it floats
-
i find that then i am winching, the wire tends to gather up at one end, cross over each other and begins to crush its self leaving some nasty kinks during strainful pulls. i know you suppose to watch where its spooling on the drum whilst winching, but somtimes thats not possible when in deep gloopy mud etc.
I am right in thinking that plasma rope will not cause itself as much damage when crosses over itself etc on the drum?
-
It crossing over itself doesn't matter half as much with synth rope as with the steel. It does still bunch but as long as it doesn't get too high it's fine. Also much easier to handle to put it back on tidy.

I have to say that after seeing plasma in action its going to replace my wire at some point!!!
Darn sight safer than wire too!!!

my steel rope has been on for 8years and is still fine i proly will buy washin line when it is fecked but till then i will look after it

Hi RichT
how was the Highland Ironman Enduro? Any pic's somewere? :?
. . . did myself two previous Highland Enduros

I also use Dyneema Bowrope from David Bowyer.
Very strong stuff and very safe. I have had a snap (someone else's strop) under tension and it just falls to the floor. Handy when there's 10+ onlookers watching close by.

All the above pro-synthetic comments, and it weighs nothing!

And if it does snap, you can just tie a knot in it and carry on winching. Then just splice it back together properly when you get home.
