Title: Winch Rope

My steel wire winch rope is getting a little battred and damaged.
I would like to go for a plasma rope, so do you know which make/supplier i should go with.
I am after a decent quality one, at a decent price.

Used mine in anger for the Highland Ironman Enduro, excellent rope, very light and stronger than wire rope.

Post by: greggmo on March 01, 2006, 08:12:49 PM: i am using the dyneema aswell, it is very easy to use compaired to steel and seems very tough. having said that steel works just fine and it is cheap. as long as you treat your winch with the respect it deserves you should never manage to snap a rope anyway.

Had my steel cable for 3 years and has served me well. Would prefer to go plasma next due to the advantages it has over steel.

Post by: jeepey on March 01, 2006, 09:44:30 PM: i find that then i am winching, the wire tends to gather up at one end, cross over each other and begins to crush its self leaving some nasty kinks during strainful pulls. i know you suppose to watch where its spooling on the drum whilst winching, but somtimes thats not possible when in deep gloopy mud etc.

I am right in thinking that plasma rope will not cause itself as much damage when crosses over itself etc on the drum?

Post by: Manda on March 01, 2006, 09:52:01 PM: It crossing over itself doesn't matter half as much with synth rope as with the steel. It does still bunch but as long as it doesn't get too high it's fine. Also much easier to handle to put it back on tidy.

Very strong stuff and very safe. I have had a snap (someone else's strop) under tension and it just falls to the floor. Handy when there's 10+ onlookers watching close by.
