where exactly is heater radiator, i think maybe instead of removing all interior i could just cut a bit of plastic - kind of access panel. ????????
anybody tried it? maybe somebody could send pic of interior of pre lift xj with marked position of this part -i mean place of "operation saw"

i know its maybe stupid idea but my xj has some scars outside so i think scar inside will even make him look more hard man even. heheh.

its pre lifting model. is it the same nightmare? no difference, no chance to cut out kind of access panel???

If you cut out the plastic, you'll end up replacing the dash anyway so don't be tempted. my dad always say "if a jobs worth doing......" Bodging that job will only result in you bursting into tears and all of us saying "we told you so"

Salute! tomorrow meet mechanic recommended by place called jeepandchryslercarparts. i have bought some pieces there before and they recomend me mechanic jeep spec. im no in it. its not i dont want but usually i do all even worst than before repair. heheh

Is the heater matrix leaking or just not giving much heat??

heating is ok, but windows all the time misted, nwhen hot air on even more, and its leaking on passanger side of central console. needs to top up freezer as well.

Have you checked that the drain plug isn't blocked? Your problem of pooling water is. Classic sign its blocked with shit. Look on YouTube and you'll see what I mean

what about loosing freezer?

If your trying to say you have no Air Con, then have you checked that your system is charged with Gas?

my air con works, 2 months ago re-filled and checked. im trying to say im loosing the anti freezer. needs top up every 2-3 days.

Then you have a serious leak. If you say your not technical then take it to a Garage (one that specialises in Jeeps)

I just changed my 1999 diesel cherokee.
It isnt such a bad job, but it is time consuming. I didnt remove my steering wheel or drop the column. But I did have to strip the full dash out. It isnt as bad as you think as the wiring loom us pretty simple and mostly all trunked together and most all of the screws holding the dash together are the same type.
Ill post a few pictures later of mine in bits. It will help you visualise what is in there.
Oh and I bought my replacement matrux from demisterman.co.uk. £107 delivered next day and a perfect fit.

Just got around to getting some of the pictures off my phone for this thread. This was the state of dismantle I took the dash to in order to get the heater box out. Once the 5 bulkhead screws are removed then it is possible to slide it out without removing the steering wheel and the full dash plastic back piece.
Yes you are going to loose your aircon gas as you need to disconnect the hoses into the aircon condenser. I have lived without mine for two years as the bearing in the compressor had started to make such a racket I disconnected it from the back of the power steering pump long ago. So whilst I was at the job I removed the compressor and all the AC lines and didn't re-install the condenser in the airbox. I just blanked off the hose ports through the bulkhead.
If anyone is interested I have a perfectly good AC compressor but with an iffy clutch bearing. Otherwise mine was gas tight till I had it discharged.
All back in and she has been working fine. Would I do the job again, yeah. But not for anyone else.
The wiring loom isn't anywhere near as bad as on something more complicated such as an E38 BMW that I did one on a few years ago. The whole process is pretty straight forwards. Just time consuming and you need space around you to work.
